    Description

I am Martina and I am the owner of a hectare of natural land by the Atlantic ocean and in walking distance to the beach. I am passionate about living in & together with nature, surfing and Yoga! Together with Marcelo, a carpenter, we live off the grid, in my magical place overlooking a lush valley and a stone throw away from the ocean, with our animals, the goats, cats, and Guia, a German Shepard. I have a guesthouse close by which I manage. I am a former economist and scientist and professional in sustainable growth theories and tourism who decided to go off the grid and live the surf life many, many moons ago: freedom, fresh air, sand the toes and soil under my nails is what I cherish! I am slowly developing my land applying sustainable principles, permaculturistic aspects and regenerative knowledge. I am learning by doing and mostly enjoying the ride a lot! I am a very structured and organized person. I like to make clear plans, define realistic goals and healthy work loads. Work-life balance, clear communication, honesty and friendliness mean a lot to me!

The place is in walking distance to the beach of Sao Lourenco and not far from Ericeira, a former fishermen's village and current surf hot spot and similarly a gathering point for alternative thinkers and defenders of new approaches to current global challenges. Whilst you can meet people from all over the world, there are lots of opportunities to get to know locals who are usually super open and friendly. As we have some beautiful natural off the grid buildings you can learn more about the concept of sustainable design and building and you will probably get to know some of our like minded friends with similar projects. We are surrounded by the blue ocean and the lush greens of the valley and this is definitely the right place for nature lovers and out of the box thinkers!

You are good with your hands and don`t mind to get wet, dust or dirty at work? We are looking for people who really want to help here on the land and have similar likes and values! You are very welcome if you are passionate and or know a lot about working with wood, plants, stones, earth, metal and water. Gardeners, permaculturists, farmers, water-professionals, wood workers etc. are very welcome! From cleaning up on the land, to fixing the goats house, making fences, cutting bushes, shaping paths with natural rocks, building with natural materials like wood and local bamboo, developing permaculturistic landscapes including natural water filtration systems etc, cooking, baking, making sourkraut, cleaning the kitchen - there is a broad variety of tasks we can offer depending on yours skills. Upcycling and creative thinking is definitely a core task.

Whilst we are in the middle of the green and by the beach we also live close to a main road with a bus station in 3mins walking distance. There is a shop and cafe close by and the next village, with bars and some restaurants is Ribamar, in aprox. 15mins walking distance. If you enjoy live music and spending an evening in a bar every now and then, all of this can be found close by. Ericeira is about 1hrs walking distance and with an Uber or our shared car it takes you about 8mins to get there. There are many options for surfing and Yoga in town as well as climbing and all kinds of martial arts, cacao ceremonies, healing circles and what not - you name it! From Ericeira you can take the bus to Lisbon or Sintra, which both take between 40mins to 1h and offer great oportunities for a bit of sighseeing and cultural tourism.

I am looking for pro-active, self-organized and responsible volunteers who can follow clear plans, and reach realistic goals that we define together. A healthy work load of 5h/ day, 5 days per week is standard here, so that a good work-life balance can be achieved. It is very important to me that you can communicate your wants and needs clearly and that you are honest and friendly at all times!

We have a no-drug policy here: whilst I have no problem with the occasional glass of wine or beer or two, I do not agree with most of the other substances and specially not here!
