UPDATE: We're all set for the moment and we will be looking for volunteers again for February. At the moment however we cannot commit or give any info about the type of help that we would need for 2021, so if you're interested please save our profile and contact us in Jan. We will not be able to give you information before that. Thanks for your understanding :)
We are Katia and Emmanuel - a couple of design professionals and digital nomads, who found themselves in the unusual situation of owning a 12 century old castle in France.
The Chateau has been in Emmanuel's family for 800 years. We took charge of it in 2013 and after months of restoration and remodelling, we launched a boutique bed&breakfast.
With the help of family, friends and workawayers we created a non-profit association for preservation of this patrimony and managed to turn the castle it into a friendly and elegant space for people from all around the world who enjoy art, travel, culture and history. The purpose is to restore, maintain and promote the natural, man-made and cultural heritage of Normandy.
It is a great project and a unique human adventure!
As most small businesses we were strongly hit by the Covid-19 and the two big lockdowns in France, which is why we are currently shifting the business model of the place towards a retreat center and Coliving / Coworking for people working remotely and travelling full time. This is something that we used to do ourselves in the past years and a business that feels closer to who we are rather than the traditional bed&breakfast. Moreover, we're hoping a project like that would make the castle life more accessible to a wider range of guests.
We are looking for people who are easy going, open and reliable, someone who appreciates art, history and culture and would treat our property with respect.

Help around the house
You will discover a historic site in Normandy and a beautiful region of France.
You can practice your French and your English with us on a daily basis. You will become part of our family!
But most of all you will see and participate in the rebirth of an old French Castle!
In December we set up the future library and workspace. We still have hundreds of old and new books in different languages, which we'd like to clean up, move and organise (yes, you should not be allergic to dust :)
We are currently finalising our shared kitchen and laundry room. We need someone who is handy and can repair simple things around the house and who is ready to have fun with us in this project.
Main tasks will include: moving stuff around, re-organising, scratching old paint and sanding, cleaning walls, painting, putting on wallpapers etc. If you have any skills in furniture restoration, wood work etc. - we have plenty of those too.
The main work will be done by local artisans, but we need help with the preparation before and the setting up after the work is done.

We have several small bedrooms with a bathroom on top of the castle (3rd floor).
We can accommodate a couple or 2 single volunteers in private rooms with a shared bathroom only for the volunteers.
We provide food and accommodation. We take turns to cook and clean the shared spaces (there is a cleaning lady taking care of the b&b cleaning)
Our property is located 3 hours drive from Paris, in the heart of the Norman countryside, close to the famous Sainte-Mère-Eglise and the D-Day beaches, an excellent base from which to explore the attractions of the region.
There are lots of beautiful animals in the surroundings of the property - cows, horses, deers, hare and wild animals - it is the perfect place for nature lovers.
The nearest town is Sainte-Mère-Eglise, also the site of Mont-Saint-Michel is 1h30 from the property.
On spot we have yoga mats, which the volunteers can use, also a lot of books in different languages and a huge park for walks and jogging.
We also have stable wi-fi and a cat named Gipsy, who travelled the world with us.
