We apologize to those of you that we haven't gotten back to, we get a LOT of messages, but we're doing our best to write everyone back!
Please note, we won't consider applications that say nothing of your qualifications or interest in our project. You will most likely get a "thank you, but no thank you" message to keep up our reply rate.
We simply don't have time to pry your qualifications from you with messages back and forth. Don't be bashful, send your instagrams, YouTube, portfolios or whatever you've got that will show us you've got what it takes.
~~~Update as of Jan 1st 2020~~~
We are looking to host someone here in Maui for two-ish weeks to work on editing a mini documentary series. See details and skill requirements below.
Previously we've hosted 3 workaway-ers, Leo, Lucy, and Zouzou, who traveled with us during our cross country adventure. It was a 2 year road trip visiting all 48 mainland states, National Parks, high peaks, and more. Last February we moved to Maui and now that we're mostly settled in we will begin hosting again.
You can get to know us a little through Instagram, send us a quick message and we'll send over links to Damaris' profile and Christophers Vlog.
Maui is an extremely magical place! I don't think I need to sell you on the benefits of the amazing experience you can have just by being here on the island.
But to be clear, please do not apply to this hoping to book yourself a free relaxing vacation. Yes, this is Maui, with no stress and no worries. But please view this as a working vacation or internship.
We're offering you the opportunity to partake in the culmination of a project that took over two years to compile. This is something unique and meaningful to add to your resume or portfolio.
We are genuinely interested in helping you further your education, career, or other aspirations. Our network is at your disposal and you can use us as references, either personal or professional.
Just think of this as summer camp for the media minded, adventure seeking person(s) willing to test their limits and challenge their creativity.
There is a whole lot we can teach and share in terms of experience in business, travel, and life.
You'll leave Maui with new lifelong friends and some really amazing memories.
Currently we are accepting VIDEO EDITOR applicants for a project .
This is a documentary style video interview project. We interviewed one person per state in the state's capital city. To narrow our pool and ensure that we chose a random interviewee, we set the criteria that each interviewee must live or work in their state capitol building. The first person who agreed to the interview is who we interviewed. The final product will be a series of videos, each video will be a compilation of the responses of all 50 participants to one of the questions from our interview.
For this project we're looking for an experience video editor who can take this from raw footage to publishable content. We estimate 25 short videos. All 50 interviews are in different settings, lighting, sounds. iMovie isn't going to cut it for this one. ;) FCPx is what we use, but if you have adobe premiere that would work too.
The expectation is that you will put in 5 hours a day, 5 days a week at our office. We own a couple businesses that are completely unrelated to this project and we are very busy. While you'll be at our office, we do not want to have to supervise you. You should be able to complete this project mostly independent of us, although we'll be excited to see progress and available to give feedback as needed.
We work every day besides Sunday and keep a pretty healthy work/life balance. By having you come to the office to put in your hours on this project I think you'll feel the same. Besides, our office is literally directly across the street from the beach and has AC and Wifi, neither of which we have at home. Beyond the 25 hours, you're free to use your time however you'd like... exploring the island, bumming at the beach or back at the apartment.
But when "at work" please stay on task and do your best not to divert us from our work.
We work very hard to maintain the life we live and cannot afford to carry dead weight.
As for accommodation, you will be sleeping on a mattress in the spacious living room of our two bedroom one bathroom apartment in Wailea, three miles up the hill from our office. Damaris and I occupy one of the two rooms and Damaris' brother David the other. We entertain quite often. You're welcome to partake in any of the meals we cook or parties we throw. Just realize, you'll have as much privacy as can be expected when sleeping in the living room of three active and social persons...
We always have a well stocked fridge and pantry full of Costco goods that's mostly organic, mostly non frozen, mostly sugar-free, and mostly vegan food. We won't be cooking every meal for you, but there will never be a shortage of wholesome food for you to prepare.
We are all very considerate and clean people. We expect the same of all our guests, workaway-ers, couchsurfers, or friends and family from the mainland.
You're like a fourth roommate who just happens to not pay rent or food. Please don't go strewing your personal belongings around the house, leaving the bathroom a mess, dishes undone, or anything of the sort. Our home is our oasis from an otherwise busy and sometimes stressful work-life, we intend to keep it that way.
On Sundays we usually find a hike in the morning and set up and play beach volleyball in the afternoon.
If you want a guide for what to bring, here's the truth, if you can't comfortably fit it into a single suitcase, then it's probably too much. Experience in minimalistic travel, such as backpacking, cycling, railing, or van living, is a plus. Because hopefully you'll have learned what to leave behind: excessive stuff, useless stuff, crap people own for no reason, your ego, bad attitudes, pickiness about food, complaints, etc.
Once we know more we will update with what helpers can do with their time off, local sights and available transport etc. But FYI, the Big Island really isn't that big. Anything on the island is fair game. If you come with the intention of seeing or doing something specific we can make it happen.
Food: We primarily eat healthy food that we prepare with groceries from regular grocery stores. We will cook and eat our meals together. Of course you are welcome to buy your own snacks. But you will not go hungry with us!
We look forward to hearing from you!
