Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
While we're not Norwegians ourselves and immigrated from Germany three years ago, we can still share some specialties of the country with you.
Plus, you can learn a lot about sustainable living and life in Norway in general from us. We can especially share knowledge about gardening, from sowing seeds to care for the soil and harvest the vegetables to preserving them.
We hope to learn new recipes from you, hope you can teach us how you cook in the country you're from. We love food and are always looking for good new ideas.
Of course we're always interested in learning how life is in the region you're from and definitely happy to learn a few new words in another language.
Help
From beginning of April to end of may, you can help us with gardening tasks in our personal garden, such as weeding, planting flowers and vegetables, sowing seeds, distributing manure, and preparing the beds. Some of these tasks can be physically challenging, but we always try to find a balance and avoid too much hard work. We also have 15 chickens that need daily care.
At the end of the season, from September to the end of October, we often need help with harvesting and preserving food for the winter, such as making juice, jams, pickles, tomato sauce, and more.
We also have other ongoing projects and ideas, often changing things in the house or around the farm.
We really appreciate people who enjoy cooking, as we love to try out new dishes. We have a daughter, so if you like spending time with her and taking care of her from time to time, that's awesome. For this reason, we especially welcome people who speak German, as it makes communication with her easier.
You probably won’t be asked to clean, but if you notice the dust taking over, we’d be happy if you give the vacuum cleaner a little walk. We like our home to have a bit of a shared-flat feeling, where everyone helps out with household tasks and takes responsibility independently.
You won’t be helping with any tasks related to our business — your help will be focused on our personal garden.

Accommodation
You would have your own room with a view of the mountains. It includes a double bed, a wardrobe, a TV with Netflix and a desk. We would share the rest of the very large historic house, which used to be the home of many priest families.
We are going to have all the meals together. (But if you want some privacy, feel free to have a meal on a mountain, the fjord or wherever it's nice)
We are vegetarian, but also open for people with a vegan diet. If you like meat, you can definitely have your sausage on your bread, but we won't cook with meat. There is only one exception: we cannot withstand if someone catches a fish in the fjord and prepares it for us, it's just too good and fresh.
What else ...
In your free time, there's a lot to experience in Norddal and the surrounding area. If you're into hiking, you don't even need to use your car, as some hiking trails start just a 5-minute walk from here. In April and May, you can still go skiing and snowshoeing in the mountains. In the village, you can go canoeing or fishing on the fjord. Equipment for these activities can always be found somewhere. And if the weather is bad, we have a well equipped gym in the village. The famous Geiranger is 35 minutes from here, and Trollstigen is about 1 hour away. There's no shortage of tourist attractions and outdoor fun in this area. Christin is into bouldering and climbing, so she will be happy to have some company.
There are two more workaway hosts in the village, so it's possible to connect with other workawayers and spend time with them as well. Its actually a lot of social life happing in this small beautiful village.
Since we’re a small family juggling both our business and everyday life, our days can get pretty full. We always enjoy good company and shared meals, but if you’re coming solo, it’s helpful to be comfortable spending some free time on your own, because we need a little alone time to recharge as a couple/family.
