  Description

  My name is Fernando and I am 34 years old.
  
  I come from a peasant family who moved to the city to give us a better education. I returned to the countryside 7 years ago to reconnect with my origins and nature. After running a hostel for a few years, I decided to buy a plot of land on the top of a mountain near Ibague. My goal is to build a lodge with natural materials and to have an organic garden that works with permaculture for emotional stability and food security.
  
  I am also part of a group of young farmers that seeks to generate a process of mutualisation of practices with the community of the village.
  
  I have long experience in volunteering, both as a volunteer and as a host. I have worked in construction in a reserve, helping indigenous people to build their homes in the Guajira. I have been receiving volunteers for the last year to support me here in the tasks of the farm: basic construction, planting, pruning, harvesting, weeding, keeping the trails in good condition, producing compost with organic waste, all related to sustainability, permaculture and agrecology.
  
  I like the opportunity to generate exchange and acquire knowledge. For this reason, I leave a lot of autonomy to the volunteers and I am open to all initiatives to improve the quality of the farm here. I also like to give explanations, to show Colombian culture and farming traditions.

  Vengo de una familia campesina que se mudo a la ciudad para brindarnos una mejor educación. Retorne en el campo hace 7 años para volver a encontrarme con mi origen y la naturaleza. Después de manejar un hostel por unos años, decidí comprarme un lote en la cima de una montaña cerca de Ibague. Mi meta es construir un alojamiento con materia natural y tener una huerta orgánica que funciona con permacultura para tener estabilidad emocional y seguridad alimentaria.
  
  También soy parte de un grupo de jovenes campesinos que busca generar un proceso de mutualizacion de practicas con la comunidad del pueblo.
  
  Tengo larga experiencia en el voluntariado, tanto como voluntario y anfitrión. Trabaje en construcción en una reserva, ayude a indigenas a construir su hogar en la Guajira. Recibo voluntarios desde hace 1 año para apoyarme acá en las tareas de la finca : construcciones básicas, sembrar, podar, cosechar, deshierbar, mantener los senderos en buen estado, producir abono con desechos orgánicos, todo relacionado con la sostenibilidad, la permacultura y la agrecología.
  
  Me gusta la oportunidad de generar intercambio y adquirir conocimientos. Por esta razón, dejo mucha autonomía a los voluntarios y estoy abierto a todas iniciativas para mejorar la calidad de la finca acá. También me gusta dar explicaciones, mostrar la cultura colombiana y la tradicion campesina.

  Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

  You will learn about the use of natural materials, their properties, their use, their origin, their value. You will experience the construction with this type of material, elaboration of the structure, analysis of the weight, protection from rain. You will learn about organic cultivation, permaculture growing techniques, composting of natural waste. In addition to this, I am very attentive to the properties of food, so I will give you information about a balanced diet.
  
  On the cultural side, you will be able to participate in meetings and gatherings organised with the local community to discover the life and the vibe here.
  
  Podrás adquirir conocimientos sobre el uso de materiales naturales, sus propiedades, su uso, su provenencia, su valor. Experimentarás la construcción con este tipo de material, elaboración de la estructura, analisis del peso, protección de la lluvia. Aprenderás sobre el cultivo orgánico, técnicas de crecimiento en permacultura, elaboración de abono con desechos naturales. Además de esto, estoy muy atento a las propiedades de los alimentos así que te transmitiré información sobre una alimentación equilibrada.
  
  En el aspecto cultural, podrás participar en encuentros y reuniones organizadas con la comunidad local para descubrir la la vida y la onda de acá.

  Accommodation

  The food in our place is breakfast, lunch and vegetarian dinner, some products from the garden and the farm
  
  My house is totally open in the sense that all the spaces are outdoors. The kitchen and the living room are under roof but you regularly encounter various kinds of insects : flies, spiders, crickets, etc. I have a dry toilet and the shower is outside while the main bathroom and shower are being built. The weather is quite mild and it is not too cold at night but you should bring warm clothes in case of rain.
  
  Volunteers sleep in tents (you can bring your own or I can lend you one) with a blanket, pillow and mat. The tent space is indoors, protected from the sun, rain and wind.
  
  Mi casa es totalmente abierta en el sentido que todos los espacios están al aire libre. La cocina y la sala están bajo techo pero se encuentran regularmente varios tipos de insectos : moscas, arañas, grillos, etc. Tengo baño seco y la ducha está afuera mientras se están construyendo el baño y la ducha principal. El clima es bastante suave y no hace mucho frío por la noche pero hay que traer ropa abrigada en caso de lluvia.
  
  Los voluntarios duermen en carpa (puedes llevar la tuya o yo puedo prestar) con cobija, almohada y colchoneta. El espacio para carpas es bajo techo, protegido del sol, de la lluvia y del viento.

  I live in a place surrounded by mountains and rivers, beautiful landscapes. We are close to the Parque Natural de los Nevados and the Machín volcano. The activities in the area are related to nature : trekking, hiking, climbing, camping,...
  The city is 40 minutes away and offers a variety of events : musical meetings, workshops, fairs, etc.
  
  Brindo desayuno, almuerzo y cena ; el voluntariado es vegetariano.
  
  Vivo en un lugar rodeado de montañas y ríos, lindos paisajes. Estamos cerca del Parque Natural de los Nevados y del volcán Machín. Las actividades de la zona están relacionadas a la naturaleza : trekking, senderismo, escalada, camping,...
  La ciudad queda a 40 minutos y propone diversas presentaciónes : encuentros musicales, talleres, ferias, etc.
