Description
We are Pete and Susie, a retired couple living in a tranquil, secluded backwater of rural Lower Normandy, with no close neighbours or local urban transport. Our home is a renovated farmhouse dating back to WW1, about 2km from the nearest village. We have a dog and 3 cats. Pete writes a food and travel blog : chocolatehunters which you can check out for more background information. Please note, we don't accept helpers who smoke or vape.
Don't forget that as a Workawayer, you'd be juggling a friendship/family/worker relationship so these have all to be kept in balance so you, or your host, won’t be taken advantage of. It also boils down to your personality. Are you willing to adapt?
Workaway is great if you are flexible enough to follow the schedule of your hosts, and are willing to forgo typical tourist experiences/locations in exchange for genuine people who actually live there.
Though the covid epidemic has eased in France, we would still prefer to host Workawayers who have been fully vaccinated and had a booster injection. (We are both fully vaccinated and have had our booster shots)Types of help and learning opportunities
Gardening
Animal Care
Help around the house
General Maintenance
Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are widely travelled and have lived in France for nearly 20 years. Pete speaks rudimentary French and English with a few choice Geordie words thrown in. Susie speaks French, Italian, German and some Spanish. She worked and lived in India for a time and we both have lots of tales to tell. We can willingly share our life experiences.
Help
Help with gardening, building maintenance, animal care and some renovation work. Our current project involves clearing up and making good the garden after tree surgery work.

Workawayers have their own private bedroom with a double bed. There is a shared bathroom on the first floor. We have wifi which is quite speedy, UK tv, an extensive DVD and Bluray collection and lots of books. We provide all the meals and are quite happy to take workawayers along with us when we go out to eat.
What else ...
We in live the vicinity of Mont St Michel and the D Day beaches. There are fascinating Medieval towns close by and lots of rolling, peaceful countryside. There are no clubs or discos nor is there local public transport. We like to treat visitors as part of the family and include them in our everyday life.
