Join us on the idyllic Palolem Island off the coast of South Goa and help with wildlife conservation programs. Palolem Island is a privately owned island off the coast of South Goa, India. It is rich in biodiversity playing host to a very thick foliage of tree cover and home to nesting eagles, wild boar, hare, snakes, monkeys and many species of fish including dolphins and Olive Ridley turtles.
We have been quite busy over the last few years putting in place basic infrastructure like a circumnavigational pathway, boat jetty, toilets, security, a biodiversity research station and several conservation programs in partnership with various partners. We have recruited our first team that includes a couple of local fishermen as our boatmen and an experienced supervisor who oversees the overall construction work. This years projects include some permaculture designing, rainwater harvesting, permanent jetty construction and building a few tree houses for wildlife observation.
Lat season, we launched our first tour product to the island. It has been wildly successful with great reviews from all our customers. It was a 4-hour sunset cruise that included a 30 minute (each direction) boat ride to the island, a nature walk around the island, sunset drinks and nibbles at the oldest rock in Asia (approx 3.4 billion years old according to geologists) and an exposure to the various conservation programs that we run. The tour ends with people shopping a few books, memorabilia and then the reverse boat journey back to the mainland under the night sky!
We also briefly experimented with open to the sky camping trips. Once again, wildly successful!

Helping with Tourists
We expect to host 6 international volunteers and 4 local volunteers in a unique multicultural setting. Volunteers will learn the basics of our nature conservation programs from our renowned consulting naturalist, tourism operations, multicultural diversity as well as some aspects of island living in Goa - an exciting tourism destination in India.
We are looking for volunteers to help out with tourism activities including boat tours, guided nature walks, snorkelling/diving, general maintenance as well as the three conservation programs that we run on the island: coral reef gardening, advocacy programs with local fishermen (dolphin conservation) and turtle hatching.

Dormitory style accommodation will be provided directly above our offices on the mainland as well as tented/outdoor camping style on the island itself.
Modern clean shared toilet facilities, living areas (indoor and outdoor), broadband internet access, TV, fridge and kitchen, limited access to RJ's home for entertainment.
Meals (vegetarian and non-vegetarian) will also be provided at the dormitory/island. We do not expect too many overnight stays on the island.

Local shopping, great food, a very vibrant nightlife and plenty of sunshine and clean waters make for a pleasant stay amidst a very eclectic mix of the local fishermen community and domestic and international travellers.
