    Description

My name is Sawai Dan, I am from a small village in the Thar desert of Rajasthan. I currently live in Jaisalmer.

I own a tourism business running camel safari trips into the Thar desert. Guests arrive to Jaisalmer and we transport them by Jeep to the desert where they stay in luxury tent accommodation. During their stay they can also enjoy an more remote experience by moving deeper into the desert on camelback and sleeping under the stars for a night or two.

We employ around 20 local people to work in our business. Many of them work at the camp doing the cooking and cleaning work required to look after the guests and tents. We have employees who look after the camels and take the guests on camel rides, as well as employees who work in logistics transporting guests from Jaisalmer to the desert camp and back.

We are looking forward to receiving you application,
    Greetings from Jaisalmer.

We would love to teach you about desert life in the Thar. When spending time with us you will learn about life in Rajasthan and learn how we cook our food. You will learn how we keep and look after the camels and you can take part in their care. If you would like to learn any Hindi we would be more than happy to teach you.

As a volunteer with Real Desert Man Safari, you will have the chance to live in the middle of the desert, 50km from Jaisalmer. We will provide all the food/water/accommodation/transport that you need. In return, we ask travellers contribute to the working of the Safari business - the work is always fun and the days working are not very long. You will have time to yourself too to enjoy sightseeing or any other activities you would like to do in either Jaisalmer or the desert.

We enjoy hosting workawayers with a range of skills, so there is something that everyone can contribute. If you have social media or graphic design skills you can help us by taking photos/videos etc and we can then use these for marketing purposes. If you have a drone we would love for you to make a promotional video for our business.

We always find it useful when guests have good English language reading and writing skills, as although we speak fluent English, reading is more difficult. Help with the internet is one of the most useful things you can help us with so if you have skills with websites or managing profiles like on workaway or other we would love to welcome you.

As part of your time with us you will enjoy experiences not just in the camp but also deeper in the desert where you will ride on camelback and sleep under the stars.

This will depend on where you are staying. In Jaisalmer you will stay in our guesthouse/hostel. When you are in the desert camp you will stay in luxury tents which have large beds inside as well as an en suite. If you are deeper in the desert then you will sleep on a camp bed under the stars.

All vegetarian meals and water are provided. You will be treated like family members and you will eat the same as the staff.
