Description
Hello!
We are a family of four living in sunny Tauranga, New Zealand. I'm French, my husband Kalem is Kiwi, and we have two wonderful boys: Nico (6) and Max (3).
We both work full-time, Nico goes to school, and Max attends daycare five days a week. Life is busy, active and fun! We love the outdoors, spending time at the beach, mountain biking, gardening, exploring the region and sharing meals with family and friends. We enjoy welcoming people into our home and creating genuine connections, while also valuing our family time.
Our home
We live in a beautiful home in a lovely, safe neighbourhood in Tauranga.
You would have your own private bedroom and bathroom in a self-contained part of the house. My home office is also located in this area, where I work from early morning until around 3pm on weekdays, but outside of those hours, evenings and weekends, the space is entirely yours to enjoy.
The accommodation is modern, warm, comfortable and provides plenty of privacy while still being connected to family life.
We are ideally located:
- 10 minutes from Tauranga city centre
- 15 minutes from Mount Maunganui and its beautiful beaches
- Close to shops, cafés, walking tracks and local attractions
Our Workaway experience
We've previously hosted a French Workawayer on a Working Holiday Visa who stayed with us for several months, travelled around New Zealand, and then returned to stay with us again before continuing his travels. The experience was fantastic for everyone, and we'd love to create the same opportunity for another traveller looking for a home away from home.
What you'll get
In return, you'll have a comfortable private space, a welcoming family environment, and a great base from which to explore one of New Zealand's most beautiful regions.
We're happy to share local knowledge, include you in family activities when you'd like to join, and help you make the most of your New Zealand adventure.
If this sounds like the kind of experience you're looking for, we'd love to hear from you. Tell us a little about yourself, your experience with children and household responsibilities, and what you're hoping to get from your time in New Zealand. -

Help
Who we're looking for
We're looking for someone who would like to stay for a longer period and become part of our family life rather than simply passing through.
Ideally, we'd love to find someone who could:
- Stay with us between August and December
- Travel and explore New Zealand over Christmas and January (we'll be going back to France for 5 weeks and bnb the house)
- Return to us from February until early March
- Travel and explore New Zealand over March-April (my parents are visiting from France and will need the bedroom/bathroom)
- Return to us from May-August
We are flexible for the right person, but we are particularly interested in building a longer-term relationship with someone who is looking for a home base while exploring New Zealand.
The help we need
Our biggest need is helping us keep our busy family life running smoothly. With two active young boys and two full-time working parents, we're looking for someone who is naturally tidy, organised and takes pride in maintaining a clean and welcoming home. Tasks may include:
- General cleaning and tidying
- Laundry and household tasks
- Gardening and outdoor projects
- Preparing family lunches and dinners
- Occasional babysitting
Childcare is not the main focus of the role, as both boys are in school/daycare during the week, but we do need someone who is genuinely comfortable with children and confident helping when required. You'll beplaying with the boys and engaging with them in a positive way.
The qualities we're looking for
The ideal person would be:
- Experienced with children or naturally comfortable around them
- Kind, patient and reliable
- Clean, tidy and detail-oriented
- Happy to take initiative around the house
- A confident cook who enjoys preparing family meals
- Independent but also happy to be part of family life
- Looking for a genuine cultural exchange rather than just accommodation
To be completely honest, one of the biggest ways you can help us is by bringing calm and organisation to a busy family home. If you genuinely enjoy cleaning, tidying, cooking and creating a pleasant home environment, you'll probably be a great fit. -
