Helping at a hostel is the perfect place for travelers! You get to help side by side with like minded people who have the same zest for life as you. Moving into a different environment can often times be scary, but the upside to helping in a hostel is everyone is in the same position. Everyone is discovering a new land, reveling in the foreign atmosphere and learning about a new culture. This will be an experience where you can learn about the hospitality industry and what it takes to start a small business. You will be learning about others traveling experiences. People are very generous with the sharing their knowledge in the hostel world and it is a great place to network and find future business connections.

We would like to reiterate here that I do ask for a TWO MONTH MINIMUM STAY. Time and the adaptation of ourselves in periods of time is where we can see ourselves evolve best. I hope your extended stay in New Orleans will be a chapter of your life that you hold dearly to you forever.

*************** WE ARE ACCEPTING VOLUNTEERS RIGHT NOW!! *********************

The main focus of this hostel is our guest. Being guest first involves being engaging and thoughtful with each individual. The hostel is a conglomerate of individuals, there for each person will have a unique experience unto themselves. It is our focus to cater to that unique experience. This includes: being present with guests, conversing with one another to build relationships and transfer ideas, planning weekly social events for the hostel (in hostel yoga, organized family dinners, arts and crafts, garden collaborations with local community gardens, music events, etc.). Being friendly and outgoing is a must! Another huge part of the being guest first is maintaining a comfortable atmosphere for each guest. This entails house upkeep. Each morning after guests check out it is our duty to clean rooms, make beds, keep up with laundry of sheets and towels, keep up with the cleanliness of all common areas and bathrooms, along with other weekly tasks like gardening. The word hostel has a negative connotation for many people, usually based on the factor of cleanliness. I want that thought to be erased from the minds of people so each person can see the beauty of the hostel experience. Keeping up with a well organized and tidy work space will show our guests that we care about their comfort. Having high standards of cleanliness will allow each guest to sit back and truly relax into the environment. Beyond guest interaction and up keep of the the home, there is minimal computer work such as, using Google Sheets at check-in and Square for payment.

Please inquire about compensation and the proper visas needed in order to workaway at the hostel.

Stay in a mixed dorm style room. It is bunk beds and a shared bath with guests staying in the dorms as well. This gives the work stay helpers a chance to get a one on one experience with guests and build a further connection. Sheets, blankets, pillows and towels are provided. You will need to bring toiletries of your own. Please also keep in mind that this is a shared space where consideration of others space and things is of the utmost importance. Minimalism goes a long way and you will learn that less is more. Keeping your things to a minimum and being organized and tidy helps to keep the flow of the space.
As for food: We have weekly family dinners at the hostel with helpers and guests hosted by us! I also provide occasional catered meals provided by a local catering company. Meals include red beans and rice, cajun pasta, gumbo and jumbalaya. You are also welcome to enjoy breakfast every morning that is provided for the guests and helpers which is pancakes, coffee and tea. Any additional food is dependent on you.

We do ask for at least a TWO MONTH MINIMUM stay. This will help each helpers to fully immerse themselves into their new environment. Each guest passing through is reliant on our knowledge of the city in order to navigate New Orleans with ease. We believe it is of great benefit to each helper as well if you are looking for a true cultural immersion. We find it takes one year to really understand a place, or at least the purpose of themselves in that place. This extended stay in the city will allow you to learn a new way of life as well as leaving your own stamp.

    What else ...

New Orleans is a wonderful place filled with charm, rich history, diverse culture, world class music and art. It is a city with a feeling. Living here you will be able to get a local sense and enjoy its lively, free spirited always fun nature. Located near the hostel are amazing bars, restaurants and shops along with museums galore. This town loves its liberal arts and will be a great time to let your creative mind shine. We are located four blocks from the street car (trolley, tram) which is a nostalgic piece of New Orleans that takes you all around town for $3 a day. There will be bikes provided as well. We are 4 blocks from the Central Business District and 14 blocks to the famous French Quarter! There is music all around, so musicians and music enthusiasts a like will never have a shortage of good tunes and great vibes. I can't stress enough how amazing the energy is here. The culture is to simply Les Bon Temps Rouller (Let the good times roll).
