    Description

We are a residential Kung Fu, Qigong and Meditation school / retreat in the mountains of Thailands most remote province: Mae Hong Son. You can check out our website kungfuretreat.com. We are offering a place on our program, usually costing $459 US per week and including training, accommodation in a room shared between two and very tasty home cooked food in exchange for help with our growing organic farm. We are located in walking distance of the lively tourist town of Pai in an area where most of the people come from ethnic minorities - hill tribes etc. We follow a structured timetable of training starting with Qigong practise at 6.00am and finishing with dinner at 6.00pm. We function as an extended family - which we consider one of our greatest strengths.

Travel into Mae Hong Son province opened up again at the end of May so it is once again possible to reach us, provided that you are already in Thailand.

We are all about teaching old style Chinese Kung Fu (internal and external) and Qigong in its full depth including History, Philosophy, Traditions, Culture and Ethos - as well as all of the physical aspects as you might expect. You will be taught by a group of dedicated full time experts led by one of the world's most highly thought of Masters who is two times world champion. The Retreat has its own library, museum, temple and gym as well as three dedicated training areas.
We run our farm and kitchen local style and produce great Nothern Thai / Burmese style cuisine.
We are based in an area with fascinating culture and take part in local festivals.
We have a strong relationship with our local Buddhist temple and often visit.
We periodically visit hill tribe villages and see some that few tourists ever get to. This sort of visit only occurs when we get an invitation, though, so is irregular.
Life here is full of surprises - we often get to take part in new festivals, events and activities as and when they arise.

We are looking for someone to help with our growing organic farm who has considerable experience and expertise in pruning fruit trees. Ideally also expertise in organic vegetable farming and general tree care / management. Reasonable physical fitness is required.

Work will include but not be limited to:
    • Tree pruning
    • Vegetable farming, including some turning over of soil.
    • Tree care / management
    • Grass cutting
    • Planting / caring for decorative gardens.
    • Composting, turning compost.
    • Watering.

    • Nursery work
    • Harvesting (picking fruit, vegetables etc)

During June we will be working on clearing scrub from part of our land and planting trees there as well as the above.

We will provide a work timetable of 25 hours a week.

We ask for a minimum commitment of 1 month. Longer stays would be preferable - the longer you are here the better you will learn the job. Also, our arts of Kung Fu etc are very deep and intricate the longer that you are able to practise, the better you will become.

    What else ...

Local attractions and activities include waterfalls, hot springs, trekking, elephant riding, hill tribe villages, temples and monasteries, rafting and caves. Pai town is a very tourist friendly place full of cafes, bars etc. The biggest attraction for you, though, should be the unique opportunity to learn real kung fu and qigong.
We have a very strong sense of identity and community and are very supportive of each other. We do expect that anyone taking up this offer will abide by this spirit.
We have a very great deal to give. We do expect 25 hours of good work each week in return.
