    Description

    Hi Workawayers!

I'm an enthusiastic and versatile woman who loves Nature, travels, sports (lately learning rollerblading!), the study of consciousness, philosophy, and responsible lifestyles. I'm a resourceful traveler, lived in several countries, and ended up coming back (since covid) to my hometown in the countryside to take care of my parents (and household including my two great dogs). I'm a trained translator, mentee in psychology and Ph.D. student in Integral and Transpersonal Psychology, I'm fascinated by the exploration of our consciousness and its relation to Life, and aspire to "know/explore myself" as part of a civilized responsibility/philosophy.

Although I no longer live at my parents', I regularly come to check up on them and my dogs. To give you an outlook of the situation, my father has Parkinson and various bodies of caretakers come home almost every day for him. My mother spends most of her time taking care of the house and him (which is energy-draining). We are looking for someone who would lighten up her schedule by bringing their presence in the house as well as their help (fixing various stuff when needed, taking the trash out, bringing wood logs in, sorting out the garage, driving them to occasional appointments or just driving them around). Gardening is also required when the warmer days will be back! Another important thing to do is to walk the dogs at least twice a day since my parents are not in the capacity to.
This is not an exhaustive list, and we welcome anyone to bring anything they'd like as long as it respects the overall way of living of the household.

We live in a very sought-after area close to nature and disconnection—actually, there's no reliable network data where we live but we do have reliable wifi. People come to marvel at the surroundings including the cute authentic villages overflowing with history, arts, local (and mostly organic) products and foods; doing all sorts of outdoor/sports activities such as hiking, cycling, and mountain biking, climbing, canoeing, and much more.
We live 10 minutes from the city that has everything, and nice people of all ages.
This region is for the spirit, mind, and body. Impossible to get bored :)

We are excited to hear about you!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Travelers will get an immersive experience - you can't find any more local man than my father (born and raised here!) who exclusively speaks French as well as being passionate about the surroundings' history; and more exotic than my Filipino mother who enjoys sharing about her culture and cooking skills.
If interested, you will be able to learn two Filipino tongues, French with my father, and English/French with me when I come around.
You can come along with me rollerblading/hiking.
We'll gladly show you around as the options are limitless... You can also come hang out with me and my friends!

    Help

The help sought can be very wide! From driving my parents around to trimming trees, to organizing the garages and (agricultural) material (which can be used for any crafting idea/project!), to walking the dogs—they looove meeting new people and making sure you feel home!

This host offers a language exchange
I've studied linguistics and multilingual translation (Mandarin, English, and Spanish) as my major in University. Because I'm an explorer/traveler at heart, it's always seemed obvious to me to learn foreign languages which can only truly happen when you immerse yourself in the culture :) I know how unsettling it can feel to practice a new language, so I truly care to make people feel comfortable, to let them take their time, and help them find what they're trying to express, as well as explaining idioms or linguistic anecdotes. I tend to mix languages as they distinctively convey the right meaning according to the context ... and I welcome anyone correcting me! hehe

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Your own bedroom (with an amazing view) on the second floor of our house where the rest of the bedrooms are. There is a shared toilet in the corridor, and the shared bathroom is downstairs (for now; we're in the process of remodeling the house this year).
My parents will love to have you with them and to cook anything you request my mother!
Depending on your appetite and/or eating habits, we would appreciate you participating in the grocery cost as we make the effort to cook abundantly and buy as ethically (local and organic) as possible, but that can be discussed too.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Examples of what you could do during your free time is to go hiking, visit the highest Dungeon of Europe (yes!), enjoy the art and the food/cafés of the city; the social life, the Jazz festival (quite famous!) ... We have lots of recommendations and I'm very open to bring you onboard to find activities!

There's no public transportation but we regularly drive to the city and can definitely find arrangements that fit everyone!
