Hello hello hello to our new Workaways!!
We are Julie and Dan, native Californians, who love traveling, exploring, and being outdoors in general. We welcome you to our community which is full of amazing nature, local shops, restaurants, coffee houses, breweries, musical venues, farmers markets, friendly people, and a great vibe!

We recently bought a property with three adorable small apartments in Nevada City, CA.
The apartments and the surrounding land are in need of some TLC, so come help us bring it to its full potential! We will be doing DIY/building projects, cleaning up the land, and more!

We welcome anyone with a good, hard-working attitude!

Would be great for couples since you will have a private apartment. LGBTQ friendly.

Grass Valley's claim to historic fame started with the massive amounts of gold discovered and extracted from its rich underground mines. In more than 100 years of mining, the mines of Grass Valley made it the wealthiest of all California gold mining towns.
You can still try the traditional Cornish Miners food, the "pasty", see the old mines and mining tools, or go gold panning in the river (and maybe even find something!).

    Help

We are renovating three little apartments on our recently purchased property, so you will be helping us with DIY/building projects, cleaning up the land, and more! For example: your day may include forest cleanup, sanding, stacking firewood, painting, etc.
No special skills are required, but if you have any please let us know! Must be comfortable with physical labor and working outside.
Typically we will work from 9am until 12pm (3 hour work day, 5 days a week) and after that the day is yours to explore!
We do not stay on the property but will be there to work alongside you and guide you during work hours.

You will be able to stay in a private apartment on the property. The apartment has the basics such as a working bathroom and kitchen, it's just messy and unorganized since it is undergoing renovations. There is not furniture yet, but we can provide you with an air mattress.

The property has good phone service but no wifi yet- fortunately it's only a few minutes drive to coffee shops which have free wifi if you need it.

We will not be providing food for you (since it's only a 3 hour work day), but you are welcome to cook in the apartments' kitchen.

We highly recommend you come with a car since public transportation is limited.
    No smoking indoors.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Historic and picturesque Nevada City and Grass Valley are 8 minutes drive away and have amazing breweries, restaurants, local shops, coffee houses, musical venues and a great vibe. Our community is big into art, supporting local, loving our nature, and sticking to our roots.
Nearby we have more hikes, biking trails, camping, and beautiful sights than you can ever need- including Scotts flat Lake, the Yuba River, as well as the famous and stunning Lake Tahoe (see them in our photos) which is only about an hour drive. San Francisco is a 2 1/2 hour drive. Ski Resorts are as close as 45 minutes drive. Check out one of our oldest buildings in Historic Nevada City, "The National Hotel" which is fascinating and widely thought to be haunted. Just ask, we can give you tons of good recommendations!

It is the perfect home base to fully experience Northern California!
