Help on our small farm by a beautiful lake in southern Sweden

We are a small farm and community in southern Småland, Sweden, surrounded by forest and lakes. We live in a peaceful and beautiful place between two lakes, where daily life follows the seasons and nature is always close.

On the farm we are five small households, and three of us work together with gardening, animals and different projects. We care deeply about sustainability, simple living and learning by doing. Our long-term dream is to slowly build an eco-village – and we have already started. This is the beginning of something we are creating together.

We welcome volunteers who enjoy nature, animals, gardening and practical work, but also those who want to enjoy an active outdoor life.
This place suits both people who appreciate calm and quiet – and people who love being active in nature, on the lake, in the forest, paddling, hiking and enjoying sauna.

We are happy to share our knowledge about biochar, aquaponics and regenerative tourism. This is an important part of what we offer in return, together with this very special and beautiful place to stay.

    About the farm

    On the farm we have:

-Chickens, sheep, ducks, fish and a cat
-Vegetable gardens, berry bushes and greenhouses
-A large orangerie with an aquaponic system, fish and exotic plants
-Biochar as an important part of the farm – we have produced and used biochar for more than 10 years
-Ongoing work with permaculture and forest gardening
-We build and repair as much as possible using reused and second-hand materials
-Two small eco-tourism businesses are also run from the farm

Life on the farm follows the seasons, and our everyday life is shaped by self-sufficiency and a close connection to nature. As a volunteer, you help those of us who live here in our private daily life and with the everyday tasks that come with living on a small farm.

It is important for us to be clear that volunteer contributions are not connected to any of the businesses or enterprises run from the farm, but are about sharing daily life and living here together.

Free time – life by the lake
Living here is about much more than work. In your free time you can:

-Swim in the lake right next to the farm
    -Fish from shore or boat
-Use our canoes, kayaks and boats
-Enjoy a wood-fired sauna on a floating raft in the lake
-Walk and hike in the forest – several trails start directly from the farm
    -Borrow bicycles
-Sometimes borrow a car for shopping or longer trips
-Use our workshop for your own projects
-The place is very calm, nature-based and open – with lots of space both indoors and outdoors.
    -Food & community

Every day we have Swedish fika together.
About every second week we arrange a potluck dinner in our orangerie, where everyone – including volunteers – brings something they have cooked or baked. These evenings are relaxed, social and full of good conversations.

Who will enjoy staying with us?
You will probably enjoy your stay here if you:

-Love nature, animals and outdoor life
-Enjoy practical work and learning new skills
-Are curious about biochar, aquaponics and regenerative tourism
-Appreciate both community and personal space
-Are comfortable working independently with responsibility
-Our place works well for couples, friends or solo travelers who enjoy both togetherness and time on their own.

  • Help

    Help

    The help

The work varies with the season and is easy to learn. No previous experience is needed. We work partly together, and partly independently after guidance.

    Examples of tasks:

-Helping in the vegetable garden (sowing, planting, weeding, watering, harvesting)
-Animal care (feeding, cleaning, daily routines)
    -Helping in the aquaponic greenhouse
    -Helping in the forest garden
-Harvesting and processing vegetables (jams, sauces, pickling, freezing)
-Simple repairs and maintenance (raised beds, fences, small building projects)
    -Firewood handling
-As part of our shared meals within our private community, there may sometimes be tasks such as cooking outdoors for these communal, private meals, together with those of us who live here permanently and with you as volunteers.
    - Helping to keep our private farm environment and the areas around our gardens and growing spaces tidy, well cared for and welcoming.

Working time: about 5 hours per day, 5 days a week
We always try to keep a good balance between work and free time and are flexible if you want to adjust your schedule for trips or activities.

    Special projects
During certain periods we especially appreciate help with:

-Repairing and rebuilding raised garden beds (woodwork)
-Start of the growing season – preparing beds, sowing and planting
-Harvest periods for berries and vegetables
    -Small DIY and building projects
    -Maintaining and updating hiking trails

Practical or carpentry skills are a big plus – but not a requirement.

    Accommodation

We offer a small and cozy apartment with two rooms, a small kitchen, toilet and shower. The apartment is beautifully located in the garden with evening sun.

-Living room with kitchen and a sofa bed (for one person)
    -One bedroom for two people
    -Bathroom with toilet and shower
-Access to a larger shared kitchen in our main dining area

The apartment is currently being prepared for our volunteers, so we don’t have photos yet – but it will be comfortable, practical and welcoming. It is not very large if three people stay together, but the farm offers a lot of shared indoor and outdoor space.

You are also very welcome to come with a campervan or motorhome.
If you stay in your own camper, we usually agree on around 20 working hours per week instead of 25.

    Food & community

Most of the time you cook your own food.
We cover the cost of groceries and you have access to a well-equipped shared kitchen, as well as a smaller kitchen in your accommodation. Every day we enjoy Swedish fika together and every second week arrange a potluck dinner in our orangerie.

Whats your idea for the place?
We love it when you help make it a place that is regenerative.
And we love thea idea that volunteers leave a positive footstep with their won personal project. Mostly, because we love how you explore our homeplace with your own eyse, but also because it is very much fun to walk through our grounds and be reminded if of the ones who built raised beds, a couch from a fallen tree, repaired the trampolin etc.
What are you going to see here? What kidn of project would you like to bring to life?

    Length of stay

Our standard stay for volunteers is about three weeks.
This gives both you and us time to settle in, get to know each other and find a good rhythm on the farm.
Sometimes we decide together to extend the stay, if it suits both sides and if there is availability.
