    Description

Enthusiasm abounds in sunny Takaka, where the microclimate is friendly to the growing garden!
We find a deepening sense of community and mutually beneficial support in beloved Golden Bay. Most of our helpers find this a special place and enjoy a longer time here with our practical life-styling and ever-evolving model for harmonious shared living for a beneficial future.

Sunshine, the visionary who facilitates our community, is a near-retirement nurse who has plenty of co-operative projects under way and needs your help to bring them to fruition! In terms of the helpers that thrive in this environment: we favour the enthusiastically competent and people who take the initiative with our collaborative projects.

This household often times also has a sprinkling of creative young children visiting.

We have an evolving duty-roster household with shared participation in our kitchen culture.

We are committed to healthy living: If you are a cigarette smoker, please seriously consider using organic while you are here. Please inform us in advance of your arrival if you are a smoker.

DIET: Omnivores with vegan tendencies; we are intending on living gluten-free, reducing sugar, minimal nightshades, grain-free where possible, and minimal waste.
We are a soda free household! We boycott multiple corporate food and food-related companies who support unsustainable environmental practices. We are aiming for a low carbon footprint lifestyle but can't deny the difficulty of such a task without significant sacrifice of comfort and convenience; God help us all.
We offer a shampoo bar and ask you to consider suspending your plastic bottle use while here. If you use sprays of any kind we ask that you use it/them outside only, so as not to contaminate the indoor environment closely shared by others.
EMF (electro magnetic frequencies): as of January 1, 2019, we ask that you place your phone in the “black box” and minimise your use of the cell phone, using it outside, in the lounge, library or your personal space only when necessary. If you are a first responder (as I am), cell phone use in kitchen-dining room while on duty only. The ease of the wifi culture belies the deadly consequences creeping across all population levels.
As our internship program takes first priority,
please check with us to see if we have any helper spaces available. From time to time we do have available space.

    Interests in:
    -Healthy living
    -Zero waste (eventually)
    -Responsible attitudes/positive intentions/integrity
    -Doom (no doom here)
    -Shared social navigation
-Minimal use of chemical influences (fragrances, industrial cleaners, detergents, soap). Please consider giving up all your scented products while here. Some of us are chemically sensitive, although your hygiene is important.
-Laundry: we use magnets and minimal detergent.

We invite you to help us all live optimally with your enthusiasm and expertise. As a part of the household you will be joining us in our gardening, food preparation, and quasi-sustainable culture. We assume your shared participation in maintaining the Homestay for all of us.

    EXCHANGE/TRADE:

    - Shared tent spaces. Through March 2019 indoor space is not guaranteed though is sometimes available. Through the Solstice holidays space may be available inside the large guest caravan.
    - Participation in shared meal creation utilising healthier and whole food ingredients.
    - An open-minded, ethical, and intellectually world-wise household.
    - Walking distance from significant cultural assets; local Takaka township, marketplace, and community gardens.
    - Bicycles. Easy ride to the beach and within range of Te Waikoropupu Springs.
    - Laundry access
    - Broadband Internet - no Wi-Fi after 10pm but cable access available.

In our ideal scenario, you would join us in fostering healthy community. We currently organise ourselves around holistic lifestyling; committed to organic gardening and use of modern consciousness technologies. Interests include: communications (NVC, The Work), healing arts, gardening, hosting, shared meals, treasure maps, education, health and consciousness. [Large library, as well as range of education/health tools, available.]

We are agents of social change dedicated to building resilient and healthy community.

This place offers a rare opportunity to slow down, dig deeper within, nurture your spirit. Though we work in the garden and garden related areas four hours a day, five days a week, you are encouraged to spend your other time taking advantage of the unique opportunities offered here in the Takaka area. I also have a background teaching English as a second language and am happy to help you improve your English. I have a deep well-versed background in the human development movement. We teach The Work by Byron Katie and offer ongoing support for the work.
