    Description

We are a single-parent family with two kids (43, 16, 4 years old), living in an old timberframe and brick house with a gigantic, rather wild garden.
There are fruit trees (cherry, apple, pear, plum, hazel+walnut, apricot, peach...) some of them quite big and old, and we try to set up a vegetable garden with organic and permacultural methods, this year with a great harvest of zucchini, tomatoe, beans, artichokes, chilis...
A second single-parent family (1 kid, 14 years) has their own flat in the house, and wagons in the garden.

There are guestrooms in the house, or a wagon in the garden, or space to park a camper.
There is plenty to do, the plan is to create more living space for flinta people/ single parent families.
The old windows are waiting to be turned into a grow house, there is clay to be turned into walls and a lot of originial ancient material to be reused to make this a sustainable place for those living here aswell as for our planet.
Next biggest project will be to install a gigantic compost-heater to plug into the heating system.
Every skill is welcome but also every unexperienced hand, as we can share what we know, and learn together what we still need to find out.
Even though the area is quite rural, by bike you can reach shops of daily needs in 10/15 minutes, aswell as a nice swimming lake.
The area is also nice culturally, with people trying to bring something forward, like community supported agriculture, free shops, youth-centers, circus projects, alternative living as well as political activism. Quite some network and a lot of creativity, right on the ex-border between communist and capitalist germany, oddly still recognizable...
A lot to discover, or, to just spend time outside and enjoy nature, and support a nice place and nice people

As a travel-loving person I love to get to know people from everywhere. Besides german and english I speak spanish, some french and some polish. I can help learning german, you could be immersed in german speaking family life. As a rather new place, there is still a lot to be developed and learned together, feel welcome to bring in your ideas of permaculture or sustainable living, get creative building a playhouse or a mobile home for chicken.

Sharing a campfire, sharing meals or picking cherries together, what could be better to get in touch?

very welcome are people skilled in timber, carpentry, also masons, plumbers, or craftspeople who are interested in old houses and natural materials.
A bathroom is planned, a compost heater to get away from fossils, some walls need isolation, some brick walls need some care.
But also repairing clay walls, carrying stuff, moving wheelbarrows of smashed bricks, cutting wood to burn, cutting down blackberry, building fences and driving metal trash to recycling and other rather simple work that just needs doing is welcome.
Also childcare, cooking, cleanig is welcome, if that keeps my back free to do other stuff...
This is a mostly flinta space, as it goes to permanent living/ decision making. Should you happen to be cis-male, you are very welcome at this place as a temporary resident. You should be aware about patriarchy and supportive of feminism, though. Extended mansplaining or masculinism did not land very good here before, and surely will not in the future.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

A room in the house or a wagon (with oven and small kitchen) in the garden, whatever suits you best. The kitchen in the house is shared with me and my family. Or you choose the wagon and privacy, also possible. As it goes with food, it is organic pragmatic, and sometimes frozen pizza. It can be optionally vegan, and who is cooking can be decided according to needs. There is always enough food :) We have the children timing, and early school timetable, so no pressure to join that.
There is a shared bathroom with hot water, but also a compost toilet is planned, also a shower in the garden.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The nice lake of Arendsee is close by. The ancient town Salzwedel is close by, also the area of Wendland with it's unique architecture.
The area is next to the green border line (Grünes Band), where nature developed uniquely during the time of the inner german border. The wolves came back and there are eagles and many others around. Hard to drive with the car and not see deer. Also the river Elbe is rather close by. You can borrow a bike from us and discover the area.

Berlin or Hamburg are quite accessible by public transport, but there are concerts and events more or less regularly around here. As mentioned above, quite some projects around.

For allergics: We have a cat and guinea pigs.
