    Description

Located in the beautiful Sabine hills some 60 kms north of Rome, we have set out to transform a traditional farm into a self-sustainable one based on regenerative agriculture and permaculture practices. We believe it essential that we learn to live in harmony with nature and have set out to create a sustainable self-sufficient community built by and for eco-travelers - a survival lifeboat for when the consumer economy is no more.

The farm covers three hectares with traditionally planted olive trees, a vineyard, fruit trees and a magnificent area suitable for vegetable gardening.

The farm welcomes eco-conscious travellers and offers the opportunity to share knowledge and learn about sustainable life-style choices, no-dig vegetable gardening, food forests, composting and biomass recycling. We are always keen to learn about practical ways to reduce our carbon footprint and the life-style changes that can be made to do this.

Compost toilets are used to save on water and to recycle human waste. Solar heating is used to provide hot water and so only available when the sun shines. In winter a wood fired central heating is used.

So far the farm has achieved self-sufficiency in electricity. A rainwater harvesting system is being developed, and firewood production organised for heating and cooking. Composting and biomass recycling is being developed to sustain a vegetable garden and the traditional monoculture fruit orchids are being reorganised into food forests.
