Our passion for urban and social permaculture has led us on a journey to renovate our family's old house and support local permaculture projects. As an activist with neurodivergent strengths in technology and sustainability, we welcome volunteers to join us in completing numerous tasks and projects.

Our journey began over a decade ago when we decided to explore permaculture, homesteading, and agroecology. We were determined to learn how to live sustainably and share this knowledge with others.

As an experienced Permaculture practitioner and traveler, I am excited to share my knowledge and experiences with you. From the mountains to the beaches, I have explored much of Costa Rica and can introduce you to the local way of living. I am also open to teaching you about Permaculture and guiding you through practical experiences. In addition, I have the opportunity to connect you with other amazing projects and Permaculture practitioners in the area.

During your stay, you may have the chance to join me and other one-day volunteers on visits to farms, urban gardens, and farmers markets. I am passionate about sustainability, Zero Waste, and human rights, and am always happy to engage in meaningful conversations and share ideas on these topics. Whether you are looking to learn more about Permaculture or simply immerse yourself in Costa Rican culture, I am here to help make your visit an enriching and memorable one.

In your message, let us know what kind of help you’d like to offer, based on the tasks below and your skills or experience.

📅👤 We welcome one or two guests for stays lasting from a few days to two weeks.

Please note that, due to our schedule and other commitments, we may not always be available to help alongside you throughout the day. Therefore, we are looking for independent, proactive individuals with experience in the tasks we need help with. We’re open to short stays and excited to support your learning. You’ll have flexible schedules, comfortable work spaces, and reliable internet access if needed.

Here are some of the tasks and skills we need assistance with:

🌱 Garden maintenance: pruning, cleaning, mulching, compost
🗑️ Garbage sorting: separating recyclables, disposing of waste, making eco-bricks
🏠 House tasks and maintenance: cleaning, repairs, meal preparation, woodworking, painting
🎓 Educational program: graphic design, video and audio editing

Please communicate clearly during your stay if you want to learn more about specific permaculture topics. We are happy to organize classes or discussions based on your interests, but it’s important that you let us know while you’re here so we can plan accordingly. Sessions can take place in the garden or as part of other projects. We also visit nearby community gardens and permaculture projects weekly, and volunteers are invited to join. This is a great way to connect with the local community and deepen your knowledge.

Currently, we have a small private loft option and a semi-private room available. There is also space to camp in the garden. We share the kitchen and have a shared shower, compost toilet, and outdoor shower. It is important to keep the common areas clean and organized.

We kindly suggest a weekly contribution to help cover the cost of providing ingredients and meals. However, this is completely optional, and you are welcome to prepare your own meals if you prefer.

    💚 This is a veg-friendly household.

🧺 Laundry is done once a week.

    💜 This is also a feminist-friendly house.

We value the personal space and requirements of every individual and strive to create an environment of inclusion and respect. Therefore, we expect all visitors, workers, and participants of other projects we may visit during your stay to conduct themselves in a manner that upholds these values, and we will not tolerate any discriminatory or disrespectful behavior.

    What else ...

Please note, this is not a farm; it’s a home located in an urban area with a garden, just 15 minutes north of downtown San José and near the mountains. To get here from the airport, you can take two buses for around $3, with a travel time of 40 minutes to 1.5 hours. If you're close to downtown, we may be able to arrange a pickup.

San Jose is a city with plenty of opportunities for exploration and entertainment. From museums and theaters to parks and restaurants, there is something for everyone to enjoy within a short distance of our location.

The mountains are just a 30-minute bus ride away, where you can find hiking trails and enjoy the views. In the city, you can visit local museums, try out some nice restaurants, and relax in parks that are within walking distance. There’s plenty to explore during your stay!
