The town of Luang Namtha is surrounded by the beautiful mountainous ranges of the Nam Ha Forest which is a part of the National Protected Area (NPA).

Here you have the locals right at your fingertips. As a traveller this is a magical opportunity to get to know heaps of lovely people from the ethnic minorities firsthand. From the locals working the front desk and the guides leading the treks, to the many friendly faces who pop by the office during the day.
Every Workawayer will be given the chance to go on any one of our tours to experience the lush jungle scenery, local culture, ethnic tribes and authentic jungle cuisine prepared in bamboo or cooked on the fire. Sleeping in the jungle or a homestay in a village gives a rare opportunity to experience local life and make unforgettable memories.
We are looking for the travellers who have a very specific background, including:
1. Field GPS Technician
Exciting project for a person owning the GPS equipment and having experience in using it. We will be sending the happy candidate to the jungle with our team in order to record the GPS tracks of our Trails.
2. Biology/Field Technician
The lucky Workawayer will collect field data and identify the fauna and flora of Luang Namtha region, which is very rich in wildlife and biodiversity. The other duty will be to identify vegetation types of conservation concern including those that are unique, threatened, habitats of plant and animal species of conservation concern.
Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management is a plus.
3. First Aid Expert
We are looking for a First Aid Expert that will run for our team a First Aid Refresher training course, which should be updated every two years.
The accommodation provided is a dormitory bed with shared bathrooms in a local guesthouse located 10 metres from our offices.
We have agreements between the Agency and a number of local restaurants where you will find everything from your morning coffee and croissant to diverse local cuisine and western comfort food when you're missing home.
We cover two of your meals per day and it is up to you which ones they are. There are also a number of other restaurants in addition to the local Night market across the street from our offices where you will find many delicious and inexpensive meals.
We have a number of activities to do around town in your spare time. These include the Nam Di waterfall, rice paddies and the golden stupa on the hill which gives you stunning views of the surrounding countryside, town and mountain ranges. These can all be accessed by renting either a scooter, city or mountain bike. The sunset over the the mountains from a hut in the rice fields is a must see experience but if you find yourself in your guesthouse as the sun is setting, the fifth floor rooftop or balconies below give a beautiful view of the town at dusk as it transforms into a thriving crowd of locals and foreigners alike.
The Nam Tha river that winds through the region can be accessed by foot just minutes from the town centre. It is a lovely place to lay in the sun and read a book in addition to observing the locals in their daily activities including washing clothes, cleaning motorbikes, fishing as well as children playing. Be sure to say Sabaidee!
There are a number of Cultural villages where you can see local life up close in addition to local schools where you can visit the children.
Luang Namtha is the perfect place to relax and take it easy. An excellent way to rejuvenate and immerse yourself in the local culture is to visit the Herbal Sauna and Massage just five minutes walk from the office.
The Night Market is an experience in itself where you can find local cuisine plated up by smiling locals and meet our friendly Ahka tribe ladies selling beautiful artisan handcrafts. We also have a few pubs and bars in town which are always an eventful experience where you can hang out with the locals or the new traveller friends you are bound to make drinking the favoured refreshment that takes the form of Beer Lao.
Access to Luang Namtha is straightforward. Buses from Houy Xai (Chiang Khong, the closest Thai Border) go every day. Buses to and from Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng and a number of other cities in Laos go multiple times a day with your choices ranging from the local bus, minivan and night bus all with varying prices; the local bus being the most inexpensive transport available. Transport to and from Vietnam and China can also be found here.
