    Description

We are a couple from Croatia (Maja is 39 and Goran is 40) and we have a little son Oliver (2 years). We live in a small village in the northeast of the country (Istrian peninsula). We've been traveling around the world for the last 15 years and have so far visited different countries in Europe, Asia and South America. We are both travel writers and have published a couple of travelogues. Maja is a poet, with 6 books of traveling poetry published so far, while Goran is primarily a walker - he published a book on his 3300 kms long journey on foot from Jordan to Croatia and another about his desert experience in Saudi Arabia.

We welcome travelers who are willing to help us in making a longtime dream come true…

We want to open a small eco/robinson camp in the almond garden behind our house. With time, the camp would also be used as an artists' residence. The camp would be small, with a maximum of 10 pitches for the beginning and it would focus on cyclists, walkers and backpackers (not auto camp with trailers or cars).

The whole story is basically at its beginning so at this moment the work that needs to be done includes: mowing the grass, cleaning the path through the forest, building benches and shelters, and similar.

    We can host one person.

Since we live in the village that is 7 kms away from the closest town, we thought it would be a good idea to welcome a person who can really enjoy their free and quiet time in this village. We don’t have a TV, but we have internet and a lot of books. There are many trails and forest paths to walk around, and the beach is 2 kms away. At your disposal you would also have a bicycle.

We offer a private room in our shared house. We'd be sharing a kitchen, living room and bathroom facilities.
We offer accommodation and food (1 meal, breakfast, lunch or dinner, depending on your preferences). We mostly eat healthy food from our village – most of the villagers are our family so we share whatever we grow here: fruits, vegetables, eggs etc. Goran is a vegetarian, so if you are a vegetarian as well, it is no problem whatsoever, since we mostly prepare vegetarian food. It is no problem if you are a vegan either. Maja is not a vegetarian so if your wish is to prepare meat from time to time, feel free to do it.

Maja is a freelance writer and a literary translator so she mostly works from home. If you also work from home we can arrange a small home office for you! We love to read and listen to the music so we might say that the general atmosphere is artistic and relaxed. If you do yoga or jogging, we can do it together, there are many forest trails for runners around.

Help to be done in the garden - mowing the grass, cutting the olive trees, general maintenance of the garden...
After that (not sure when yet) we would need to start preparing the pitches, constructing small wooden sheds, compost toilets, rain water tanks, tents, garden decorations... The camp would also be an artists’ residence one day so all of your creative ideas are most welcome!! Within the garden there is a small olive yard so we would need to cut these olives as well (part of spring care for the olives). We have a medium-sized vegetable garden for ourselves, the workawayers could be taking care of that too (watering, weeding)… Both the garden and the camp are based on permaculture design.

Both men and women can work in the garden since there are a lot of nice things to be done out in the open air this time of the year… We would appreciate if you could help us out by working 5 hours a day, 5 days a week (2 days off, whichever days you like). The best option would be if you could stay with us for 1 or 2 weeks.
