    Description

We are a young couple with a small and growing hobby farm! We have 4 cows, 5 sheep, 5 turkeys and 150 chickens!

I am a tattoo artist and I help mainly by tending the large garden and orchard projects, taking care of the animals and planning via integrating unique software approaches!

My partner (Chris) works on the family grain farm and is the main caretaker and builder of things! He has a passion for livestock and a vision for a different way of things in agriculture.

Currently our farm is a homestead, providing food for our family, with the goal of eventually providing enough to be a business.
We're working towards a regenerative approach, with a goal of an entirely self sustaining farm, to be able to provide our community with all local fruits and vegetables, and explore methods for greenhouses and root stocks, that allow for year round growing in the north. This is something we are both passionate about, and we have a desire to share our experiences and findings with individuals and communities that would like to share in the journey or the knowledge! We are constantly working on exciting projects, restoring barns, chicken coops and antique equipment, along with daily chores like feeding all the critters!

We love to have fun with everything we do, and really make the most of enjoying each day and the company we are with.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are a self sufficient couple, and we try to do everything ourselves! We've acquired quite a bit of experience in many different areas, are constantly learning more, and are always eager to exchange knowledge! Helping around the farm provides an insight into the farming culture of northern Saskatchewan, but also in applying new and ancient concepts together in our own version of modern farming. We are also very environmentally and health conscious, so we're always playing with creative ways to reduce waste, reuse everything, and make things from scratch. We also grow, and process many medicinal herbs!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a 2 bedroom house down the street from us. Depending on who is visiting, you will either have the house to yourself or one of the bedrooms! There are beds in each room, and a full kitchen and bathroom. We will provide you with the ingredients to cook your own food, and we like to try and have a meal together at our house once or twice a week!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We live in the tiny sleepy town of White Fox. There are no cafe or theaters, only a general/grocery store. Nipawin is 14 km from us, and has restaurants, an outdoor pool, and some small stores. We're happy to drive you or you can use our bicycle.
I work in Saskatoon once a week for 2-3 days and it may be possible to get a ride to visit the city if you're interested in exploring it! It's about a 3 hour drive and they have many beautiful sights, bridges, cafes and shops etc. It's about 250,000 people.
The real beauty up north where we are is in the nature here around us.
We try to get out to the lakes and rivers often in our kayaks, and we enjoy rollerblading, skateboarding and a good BBQ with family and friends. We have all kinds of other projects on the go!
If you come in your own vehicle, there is lots of opportunity to explore great places, and if you don't have transportation, we would love to show you around the beauty of the North as often as we can!
The farm is a 5 minute drive from us, on the land of my partner's parents. They are a sweet older couple and always good for a laugh. It is full of cats, kittens and a dog, and we also have 3 sweet cats and a dog at our home.

We would love if a family was interested in staying as we don't want a single individual to get bored staying by themselves (unless you enjoy that!), and we're very family focused so we love to encourage family travel and projects! If you are travelling with a partner and/or kids, we can provide accommodation for 4 (we have 4 beds), but at present can only afford food for 1. If you and your partner are both interested in helping out, and possibly staying longer term (2-6 months) we may be able to work something else out! Kids are more than welcome to hang out on the farm :)
If you are an individual, please be aware that you may be the only one in the house!
