We are a tourism information center. We are working to develop four distinct tourist routes in the canton and we work very closely with our member communities and the Municipal Government of Sigchos.
There are a ton of beautiful attractions in Sigchos that we want to share with the world. Lots of people hike the Quilotoa Loop, but many get lost and there are not very clear directions and we hope this information center can make it clearer, but a main goal is to make our other sites known (The Pillars of Tangan, Churo de Amanta, El Ultimo Inca Winery and the hot springs of Yanayacu).
There are more opportunities in marketing this area as a mysterious location as one of the last strongholds of the Incas and many tunnels and strange locations being discovered everyday (The Pillars of Tangan being a strange formation of cliffs that may have been constructed as a ceremonial sacrifice site by the Incas). So this is a great place for those who are interested by this mysterious history and helping us market it to the world.

Helping here at the tourist information center you will go enjoy the tourist attractions often to gather videos and pictures or to be a guide for tourists. This location will also allow you to get into Ecuadorian Culture. Sigchos is a very unique city and everyone knows each other making it a very friendly atmosphere to really integrate yourself in the community and culture.
Sigchos is such a beautiful place to live with a great view of the Ilinizas volcanos from everywhere in the city and its position on the mountainside makes it a unique view of the landscape. This really is a showcase city for the Andes of Ecuador.
This experience would be very meaningful because Sigchos is not a touristic city and so it is not like Banos or Cusco or the other cities in South America that are large tourist populations. It is safe and friendly and all the work done will be part of the foundation of the organization.
Help managing the social networks and creating promotional material would help a lot. There is other work to be done in maintaining the information center and at the various sites in different communities. We also always welcome help teaching us English so we can better serve those coming for information.
While helping here in the information center the volunteers can stay for free at one of the hostels here in Sigchos (about 5 minute walk from the information center) which is owned by one of the members of the tourism association.
This hostel includes beds, bathrooms, shower and television. Meals will also be provided from the information center.
There is also a possibility that we will want volunteers out at one of the tourist attractions and accommodations will be provided there as well, for example at the Pillars of Tangan there is a cabin for the workers to stay with meals and a warm fireplace.
On the weekends it might be nice to go to Latacunga because there is a mall and other things to do there. The bus is $2.30 and is about two hours. It is pretty comfortable and easy to use. Buses go between the cities every other hour most days.
In Sigchos there are markets and soccer games on the week ends and usually there are things going on throughout. The area is very beautiful and hiking or biking is a great way to see more of the area.
