We loved our experience!
My fiancé and I arrived to Newfoundland for the first time in December, Monica picked us up from the airport, showed us good places to go in St. John's/Torbay area and showed us how to care for her animals. We both initially had worked with animals before so went in with knowledge on how to care or them but it's important
… read more for animals to have a schedule so the main thing for us was to learn that.
Monica was really accommodating, helpful and patient. She showed us how everything was done and made sure we were comfortable before she left. Although she was away, we were always in contact and she was happy to answer any questions or concerns we had. A bonus was having her beautiful dogs Tiempo and Melossa around, they're both so loving and well tempered.
She also has a full time employee, Kseniia who would look after the camp dogs so we only had to focus on the hotel dogs and Monica's own animals. Kseniia is so helpful and would always go out of her way to make sure we were set up for the evening before she went home at the end of her day.
We cannot recommend staying with Monica enough.

Vicky and Michael went beyond my expectations. They are both very responsible and attentive to the animals. I spent a very short time with them showing them the routine before I left on my trip.
They took over with confidence and dedication. I felt very comfortable and trusted their capabilities.
They are a lovely couple that cared for my home
… read more and animals like they were theirs. I have no words to thank them for everything they did. Thanks Michi for improving the set up for the dogs with gates. Thanks for all the painting and work in the garden. And for taking such good care of Tiempo and Melossa and making sure their needs were met. I am sure you won't forget the adventures you had together...
Vicky, my clients were so thankful for everything you did. The dogs thank you too. You took over the business and managed everything professionally.
Vicky and Michael are completely reliable and I highly recommend them.
Good luck in your new location. You will always be welcome here.

I stayed there for 3 months during a weird period, The COVID but It was the best place to be. I was looking with another traveler on 3 cats, her dog Tiempo and take care of dogs for daycare. It was a great experience, where I learned a lot and I discovered many things about dogs and the province Newfoundland. We were really close to St John's and

What an experience - in all the good ways! :)
We ran Monica's Doggie Day Care Center and the Hotel while she was away for four weeks. During the first week, she showed us how to take care of the five cats (three of her own and two hotel cats) and how to handle the dogs. After that we could always contact her if there were any questions. Even if
… read more you aren't that used to dogs, you will learn quickly how to handle them - but you should be confident in yourself! One highlight was her huge Newfoundland puppy Tiempo. He is such a sweet, drooling baby!
Since you take care of animals, you have to be reliable. After all they need to be fed in the morning and in the evening about 4 pm, and the hotel dogs have to be let out late in the evening again. It worked just fine for us since it was winter anyway and we didn't want to spend time outside in the dark. Speaking of winter - we had much snow shoveling to do, so at the end our shoulders and arms looked like those of Hercules! ;)
Tuesday to Thursday were camp days. In the morning dogs were dropped off who had to be situated in the different pens, during the day they had to be resituated to different areas, and some of them had to be fed at noon. They were picked up at late afternoon till 5 pm. Even though all those different dogs might be overwhelming at first, once you get to know them better it is so much fun spending time with them. And no worries - Monica never let us handle more dogs than we trusted ourselves to do, and they are all well mannered and genuinely good boys and girls!
So in total we had three full days of work on camp days, and had to take care of hotel dogs on most of the days. So if you want to spend the evenings and nights away, this isn't the right host for you.
In our free time we explored St. John's and the surroundings, and of course cuddled up with the cats and Tiempo. All of them are so unique and we really have taken them to our hearts!
We enjoyed our stay at Monica's dog hotel and recommend it to anyone who is responsible and loves animals. We surely learned one thing or another and wouldn't want to miss this experience! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.
