Description
We are a peaceful guesthouse located just outside of Grootfontein in northern Namibia, surrounded by a lush garden with vegetables, fruit trees, and a variety of farm animals such as chickens, rabbits, sheep, and horses. Our garden also includes more unusual
plants for the region, including exotic fruit trees like jackfruit, creating a unique and green environment.
We are 12 persons working on the premises.
3 persons for cleaning
3 persons for cooking
3 persons for maintaining the garden
1 person for goats and sheep
1 person as driver ( still learning)
1 manageress
The guesthouse is managed by an on-site manager and supported by a local team. We welcome volunteers who are interested in becoming part of daily guesthouse life, supporting the manager in guest operations, and contributing to the ongoing development and maintenance of the garden and property.
Typical tasks include assisting with guest interaction and service, helping with gardening such as planting, watering, and harvesting, as well as taking on small organizational duties like shopping and general errands. For this reason, a valid driver’s license is required. We especially appreciate volunteers who are proactive, reliable, and able to take initiative.
We offer accommodation in a separate house for volunteers, equipped with electricity, hot water, and internet access. We enjoy cultural exchange and welcome both solo travelers and couples who are independent, responsible, and open to experiencing life in a new enviroment.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We see Workaway as a cultural exchange and an opportunity to connect people from different backgrounds. Volunteers will spend time with our small team, which includes Damara, Kavango, and German-Namibian staff members. Within the team, Afrikaans is widely spoken, along with some English, and the manager also speaks German. This creates a natural environment for cultural and language exchange in everyday situations.
There are opportunities to connect not only within the guesthouse, but also with the local community. Volunteers who are interested can get involved with a nearby germanboarding school or a soup kitchen in the township, offering a deeper insight into local life.
Through helping and daily interactions, volunteers can learn about guesthouse operations, gardening in a semi-arid environment, and the realities of life in Namibia. At the same time, we value the ideas, perspectives, and skills that volunteers bring with them, and enjoy learning from different cultures and ways of thinking.
Help
Volunteers will collaborate closely with the manager and become part of the daily routine of the guesthouse. Tasks are varied and include supporting guest service, running errands, and helping with small organizational duties, as well as hands-on tasks in the garden such as
planting, watering, and harvesting.
We usually contribute together as a team, especially when it comes to guest interaction or larger tasks in the garden, but there is also room to take initiative and help independently. Along the way, volunteers can gain insight into hospitality, basic garden management, and everyday life in rural Namibia, while also sharing their own skills and ideas.

Accommodation
Volunteers stay in a separate house on the property, offering privacy and a comfortable space to relax. The house is equipped with electricity, hot water, and internet access nearby. It provides a simple but pleasant living environment, allowing Workawayers to unwind after support while still being close to the guesthouse and garden. Meals are taken with the guests.

What else ...
In their free time, volunteers can relax on the property, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and make use of one of the three swimming pools. It’s a great place to unwind and have some quiet time.
Trips into town can be arranged independently by taxi if needed. For arrival and departure, there is a reliable bus connection with Intercape.
