ENGLISH NATIVE SPEAKERS ARE OUR PRIORITY !!

    Hello! My name is Delvis.

I’m a 31-year-old PhD student at the Queensland University of Technology, living in Brisbane, Australia, for the past two years. Before starting my PhD, I founded an English school in Padang, Indonesia. As I’m currently away, I’m seeking foreign volunteers to help our dedicated local teachers in providing English lessons to our wonderful students.

I truly enjoy meeting people from different countries and cultures, and this platform has allowed me to connect with volunteers from around the world. We teach English to young adults aged 17-28, focusing on improving their language skills in a fun and engaging way. Our mission is to empower the local community, especially in the surrounding villages, by enhancing their English proficiency, which is increasingly important as the region opens up to tourism and professional opportunities.

    What We Offer to Volunteers:
-Comfortable Accommodation: Stay in a private room surrounded by beautiful rice fields, rivers, and jungle, just 15 minutes by motorbike from Padang. You’ll have access to a fan, mosquito net, mattress, and private bathroom. During busier times, female volunteers may share a room with local female teachers.
-Local Exploration: In your free time, we’ll help you discover the local culture, including trips to beaches, waterfalls, markets, and more.
-Teaching and Cultural Exchange: Whether you’re an experienced teacher or simply confident in your English skills, we welcome volunteers of all backgrounds. We offer guidance and are eager to share teaching techniques and local customs.
-Motorbike Access: If you hold a valid motorbike driver’s license, you can borrow a motorbike from our staff or students to explore the city.

    Volunteer Role:
You’ll help teach English to enthusiastic high school and university students, with a focus on improving their public speaking skills. Classes are typically held in rustic cottages or community gathering spots. The schedule is flexible, and we’ll work with you to plan the classes.

    What We’re Looking For:
We’re primarily seeking volunteers who can give ongoing, meaningful contact with English speakers. This helps the local population build essential language skills for better social and professional opportunities. We welcome native and non-native English speakers with a passion for teaching and cultural exchange.

    Important Notes:
If you’re a female traveler, please wear modest clothing in respect of our local religious customs.
Volunteers should bring their own toiletries and towels.

    How to Reach Us:
You can fly to Minangkabau International Airport in Padang. From there, we can either arrange to pick you up or provide directions for a taxi. My place is located in Bukik Sungkai, Pauh, Padang, just outside the city.

This is a truly unique and welcoming place where everyone will greatly appreciate your help. If you’re interested in contributing to our mission, please reach out to me here, and we can discuss the details of your stay.

Let’s work together to empower the local community!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Cooking and sharing local food with students, while discussing Minangkabau culture and picking up some Bahasa Indonesia (even passively) from the villagers, creates a rich and immersive cultural exchange during your stay. This, combined with teaching English to our students, offers a unique opportunity to experience the local way of life.

To make your stay even more exciting, we provide full access to a motorbike, so you can explore the beautiful surroundings during your free time and truly immerse yourself in the local environment.

    Help

To take part in the Volunteer Teaching Program, it’s essential that you are highly fluent in English. While previous teaching experience and even some fluency in Bahasa Indonesia are appreciated, they’re not required. What’s most important is that you’re sociable, open-minded, and ready to immerse yourself in a truly authentic local experience.

We teach various levels of English to the local community, ranging from absolute beginners to more advanced high school students. Your involvement will make a significant difference in the lives of these students as they work to improve their English skills and expand their opportunities.

We dedicate a comfortable room exclusively for our workawayers! The room includes a double bed with a brand-new mosquito net, ample space for your belongings with hangers and low tables, and a self-contained bathroom to ensure your privacy and comfort.

If you enjoy cooking, that’s a bonus! We love to share meals and typically cook Padang food and other traditional Indonesian dishes, many of which are spicy. You’re welcome to propose new menus, cook alongside us, and enjoy the communal dining experience.

Note: Please be aware that we are not able to accommodate vegan travelers, as our meals commonly include meat.

Since we allow our workawayers to borrow a motorbike, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the surroundings independently on your days off! Whether it’s visiting beaches, waterfalls, or markets, I’ll be glad to help you organise your trips and share tips about the best spots in the area. Alongside teaching English, you’ll also enjoy a rich cultural exchange by cooking local food, discussing Minangkabau culture, and learning a bit of Bahasa Indonesia from the villagers during your stay.
