    Description

Our place is deep rural, in the stunning mountains nurtured over 27 years by our dynamic , hard working team to provide a home away from home for our international guests of all ages. It's a bit like a kibbutz where we grow as much organic produce i.e. fruit and veg in summer , farm a small herd of Jersey cows for delicious fresh milk, cream which we make into butter and yoghurt and have our own laying chickens. Our meals are healthy home cooked fare.

A laid back haven to nourish your soul , mingle with travellers from all over the globe , help out with hospitality duties over peak periods, meet the locals, learn some Zulu and Sesotho, discover how to make traditional food and exchange culinary ideas with our chefs in the restaurant, join one of our well established hiking, pony trekking or cultural tours into Lesotho, pick fruit and make jam in summer, set off on foot from our Lodge into the World Heritage Site wilderness for an overnight hike sleeping in a cave, teach English at the local rural primary school.....so much to do here .

We love to share our passion for nature, environmental reverence, conservation and sustainable tourism with guests at the Lodge.

We are especially looking for a someone who loves a nature based place to join our team with creative carpentry skills to design the interior of our farm barn . As this is not a party place, it would suit a person who is perfectly content to be far from the city lights ,with artistic creativity and an eye for aesthetics blended with African designs.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Having the privilege of staying in a rural area that is set deep in majestic mountains, bordering a World Heritage Site and having the opportunity to meet other travellers from all over the world.

Engaging with Zulu people to teach them skills of basic carpentry will equip them well to becoming entrepreneurs in their own right. This would be a most worthwhile experience for a young person with altruistic ideals of making the world a better place through teaching of skills and passing on of knowledge.

We already employ 11 full time staff who were all previously unskilled and unemployed and have over the years offered them training in many areas. This country desperately needs job creation so we do not view workaway as a provider of cheap labour taking jobs away from locals who need them. We consider Workaway to be a source of people with skills and qualifications to teach or train those already in employment and others who are not in employment in the host country, therein empowering them with additional skills that they can then use to teach others.

We trust this clarifies why we do not take long stayers from workaway. Two weeks is the maximum.

You will learn what is like living in rural Africa , a different culture, different language of the people, school life for rural children...the experience of engaging with people of a different culture to yours will help you broaden your mind, melt away prejudices you may have had, open your eyes to how privileged western society children are without them even realising it, how much you take for granted back home.

You can have the opportunity to gain insight into life of the mountain people of the Kingdom of Lesotho and their unique culture or learn about the Bushmen people who used to live here leaving behind thousands of panels of stunning rock art.
