The project works to empower Sri Lankan children from poverty. We provide training, support and guidance to schools, orphanages and grass roots organisations; working directly with marginalised, vulnerable children and young people from poor communities. The project office is based in Kandy, within the Central Highland Province, our centre with pre-school in the tea plantantions of Hanthana, Kandy. Like the unique Kandyan weather the ethnic and religious context is as strong and diverse with Sinhalese, Tamil, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities sharing the close proximity of the city.

Teaching
You will have the opportunity to actively support our projects and contribute your skills in any way possible. Any ideas are welcome. You will get to know the Sinhalese and Tamil culture closeup, as you will be working mainly in the community and schools. This will not only help the community to develop, it will also develop your own social skills.
As a volunteer your role will be vital to delivering that support; helping to unlock a child’s hidden potential. All volunteers will be provided with a volunteer placement based on their professional skills, the current need of our service and suitability upon receipt of a CV and DBS or equivalent police check. As we need help in several fields, you can always apply and and bring in any skills you might feel valuable to the project and to our children. Just surprise us with your skills!! This could be in teaching, maintaing the land, building, creative works or administrative works, marketing, finances, etc.
We also greatly appreciate volunteers bringing project and workshop materials to support their volunteering.
Also we encourage volunteers to do fundraisers to support our project.

The project offers accommodation in our Volunteer Centre in Hanthana (14 km from Kandy) amidst the tea plantations.
The house is situated on the premises of our newly refurbished centre in a picturesque countryside within a tea estate, but yet in close proximity to Kandy. It consists of two private four-bed room (bunk beds with mosquito nets), one with attached bathroom with shower, another separate showering area, a living room and a kitchen for cooking. It includes the use of fridge, washing machine, electricity, free Wi-Fi and access to a phone, and is situated within close proximity to the main road and a bus stop.
As we are a charity and depend fully on donations to fund our projects we charge a small fee of 5 USD per day for food and accommodation.
We can provide details of trusted local tour operators. Airport collections/departures and tour packages are arranged between the tour operator and volunteers and at volunteers’ own cost. We can advise you on local bus times/routes if you wish to travel to Trincomalee, Ella, Arugam Bay, Dambulla and other tourist sites. If you stay at the Centre for long periods then you will want to take advantage of the weekends to travel and explore this beautiful island. We also have a number of hostel partners throughout the island and Kandy, who will offer a discounted rate to project volunteers.
Kandy is a city steeped in culture. Places of interest are the Buddhist Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, the lakeside, the Botanical Garden and the Big Buddha Statue to only name a few. It is surrounded by beautiful nature with tea plantations, trekking trails and more. As Kandy is a bigger city you will also have some cultural events going on. Kandy is also world-famous for the Esala Perahera Festival which happens every year in August.
