    Description

Soeren and Claudia relocated in 2018 from Germany to Barcelona. In 2019 they bought the former farm house quite near to a natural park with some 9 hectars of land and forrest. We finished most of the reformation of the main house with our living space, the annexes and guest appartments and opened our hostal rural in 2025.
However, still some stuff is ongoing and we have some plans in mind so the next 10 years won't get boring... ;-)

We are enthusiastic workers and DIY'ers. From setting up a 160 cbm water deposit, putting kilometers of water tubes and electric lines into the ground, moving hundreds of tons of material for landscaping and gardening to the daily care of everything, we're doing this all round the year, including now taking care of our guests especially in summer time!
A fully equipped workshop for carpentery, painting, most tools for metal works and our various machines for groundwork, forrestal work and more help us on our daily duties.

We skip here the description of our hostal rural, anything about it can be found on our website - ask us for the link

Food plays an important role in our small family. Claudia is a professional and exceptional chef and cooking together you can learn a lot about "crossover kitchen". We also try to go regulary to tastings of local manufacturers where you could join us.

If you want to improve your German or English, we are there to help you practice and improve. If you are native Spanish speaker, we're happy to learn from you ,-))

If you want to learn or exchange ideas about renewable energy and sustainable modern homes be ready for some talks with Soeren in the "smarthome" center. Central heating with wood, PV + batteries, wind whatever, it's still all under development, but interesting to talk about.

For the moment our main DIY project is a new 60 sqm garage. Built from prefabricated concrete blocks, with a classic spanish roof it's quite a large project (10x6 meters, up to 3m height).
Therefore we're looking for someone with a sound or professional background as brick layer ("Maurer / Polier" in German). The work will be mostly done as team, so you won't work alone all the day :-)
Beside that, a couple of other smaller projects involving concrete, grout and bricks are waiting on the todo list, and there's always a ton of other things where two helping hands are usefull - or short: it will not get boring in our place ;-)

PLEASY ONLY APPLY if you have at least semi-professional experience, we will likely ask you also for some examples of your prior work (made some not so super-good experience otherwise, sorry ,-))

We are quite flexible with hours you would like to work, but would like to have you at least ~30 hours per week working. Soeren is working on the spot usually Tu/Th/Sa/Su (other days are office days) so working on these days at least would be mostly appreciated.

Our workshop is fully equipped with all tools that one needs for carpentery, basic plumbing & electric, all the work around the house & gardening and MIG/TIG welding. We also have all tools for basic construction work as well as a small excavator, minidumper for groundwork.

As beening a paid job, we will pay €9 per working hour - benefits see below.

We are native German speakers and speak fluent English as well and good Spanish. As we are on the lookout to improve our Spanish and super-basic Catalan whenever possible, we are happy to host native spanish/catalan speaking people as well.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will get a regular self-contained apartment which we also rent out to our guests. It has a fully equipped kitchen, bedroom, bath with shower, central heating, air condition and internet access. To keep it tidy and and clean we would ask you for a weekly full cleaning, as we do it with our other appartments when we have regular guests.

According to workaway policy for paid jobs food would be on your expense in general. But Claudia usually cooks 3~4 times per week lunch for all, so you would participate here as well. And usually we'll have a beer or glass of wine sometimes after work, so some social life is included as well ;-)

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Our place is located in the middle between Barcelona and Girone. There is not more to say, both cities offer so many things to see. We are around 5 KM from Sant Pol de Mar, which has very nice beaches and is one of the nicest pueblos on the Maresme coastline. The natural park "Montnegre i Corredor" starts near the Masia and finally the Costa Brava is quite near, always good for a day tour. The landscape in the back country is just marvellous for hiking, climbing and cycling. More to the north of us are quite old small towns, some up to 800 years and more and a lot of roman and even greek history can be discovered, if you are interested in. France is just 2 hours away an has also a number of well known towns with reminiscence to the medieval time like Perpignan and Carcassonne.

We can also have hikes together and try to wow you for the landscape as Catalonia has so many landscapes and nice places to offer.

There is a bus line running through our village but we are happy also to bring you to the train line in Arenys de Mar if possible for us or pick you up at return when we are going there anyhow.

Please bear in mind that be public bus route (lines 651, 652) comes goes only hourly through our village during the week, Saturday just two times and Sunday NOT AT ALL - just to mention that we are at least "a little off". So depending on where to go, you need to plan some time for it. Our village has a basic supermarket, a butcher with irregular opening times, a farmacy and two restaurants and a bar, so it's not too bad here... ;-)

    Space for parking camper vans

We have enough space to host motorhomes or campervans. Water and electricity is avaible, but for the waste water we cannot offer a dump site, unfortunately. There is a camp site in the next village, so eventually it can be dumped there.

If the pet is well behaved and does good with our 2 beagle mixes, it will be easy. As our dogs are used to have guests and dogs of guests regularly around we don't expect any problems at all.
