Remote village, super safe, ideal to improve your Spanish and enjoy a crystal clear lake/the jungle. Friendly locals. House right on the lake, with your own room. If I'm here I'll cook otherwise I'll leave basic food for you. No landline = you need to put $15 a month of phone credit to have internet. Over 25s, 3 weeks min. You need to speak decent Spanish

We provide a private room for you (sometimes shared with one other same sex volunteer), and the bathroom is shared with another room, which is empty most of the time. You get kitchen access and can get simple meals as well.
I am looking for someone to work with the kids, teach them a bit of English and create fun activities in the computer lab, maybe read books out loud, make a crafts project... English and computer is what I need at first, then it is up to you to create new fun activities. It has to remain a class, so the kids take it seriously. You are not a baby-sitter or here to play games all day.
The kids are 6-14 year old and they already get computer lessons three days a week. But I want to increase that and reach more kids with English and computers.
The community is really nice and kids love to get busy with whatever they can. This is a quiet village, where you would be fully immersed in the community.
If you want to learn Spanish, there is a school 6 miles away in San José, and Flores is 20 miles away and has more school, plus bars and restaurants for your weekends.
You would work 5 days a week, 20-25 hours and have weekends off.
As we don't have a landline, I don't offer internet, but you can get a $15/month 1Gb plan for your smartphone, or $2/day will get you 500Mb on your laptop.
You get your own room (sometimes shared with one other same sex volunteer) with twin or double bed, and a shared bathroom with one room only, which is empty most of the time so safe for a few days per month it will be your own bathroom if you are the only volunteer. Otherwise you share with the other volunteer.
The property is a small guest house right on the beach with a private deck, hammocks, open air kitchen...
Housekeeping is done twice a week, and daily when guests are renting, you can have your laundry done too but that's for an extra fee.
I have had up to 3 people at a time but prefer 1-2 people. 3 weeks to 3 months stay, so the kids don't have so much turnover.
25+ year old unless you are wise beyond your years, it is not a party town, just a relaxed place in the middle of nature.
You have a bus to Flores that stops right in front of the house, and on weekends you can also explore Mayan ruins like Tikal, Yaxhá, trek in the jungle, visit the zoo or ecoparks around.
Unlike Antigua, you will probably be the only foreigner in the village aside from myself and 4 Spanish people, so it is the ideal setting to improve your Spanish and get to experience the real Guatemalan life.
