Description
Live with locals, learn our culture and make friends with fellow travelers from all over the world. We are located at the base of majestic Mt. Meru in Arusha where we host a number of charity projects that truly make a difference. Also, for fun we can help you to organize safaris, mountain climbs (Kilimanjaro) and day trips to Zanzibar and other destinations. Please get in touch if you are interested in volunteering or internships. Our charity is run by Mama Hindu and her daughter Fatmah. Our Hostel team is run by me, Ally (a local) and Norina (from Germany.) A minimal staff is maintained which consists of volunteers and a few others (Housekeeper, Teachers (mostly volunteer), etc. A workaway with us truly will be a life changing experience. Please come and join us!

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Two is usually the maximum number of volunteers that we can accommodate at one time but we can be flexible depending on skills and availability. You can also learn to speak kiswahili, about local food and culture.
Help
We have many volunteer opportunities at the school, the charity center, and the hostel. We are always open to creative ideas and welcome suggestions.
School opportunities include: Assisting and teaching in the classroom (ages 5 – 14), participating with children's sports activities during recess and "Friday Sports Time", coaching local kids basketball, reading, tutoring.
At the hostel we can use volunteers with a variety of skills: carpentry, gardening, painting, keeping the common areas super clean, and general maintenance. We are converting a space into a reception area and need your help! Social media and marketing skills are extremely welcome but not necessary. Minor tasks many include: painting, light yard chores, helping with guests – nothing too physical.
The charity needs volunteers for computer data entry, filing, health assessment of students, assisting women with job searches, traveling to local other schools to assist with educating adolescent girls (and young boys) on women’s empowerment.
As you can see, there are so many things to do and we can match you up to the tasks that you are best suited for and that are of the most interest to you.Languages

Swahili (Kiswahili): FluentThis host offers a language exchange
There are plenty of local people (at the hostel, the school and around the town in general) here to teach you Swahili (Kiswahili) - this is a pleasure for us and we are always anxious to learn the languages of all of our visitors. English is very commonly spoken here but we can always improve our skills. We also have a fluent German speaker on staff. But any language exchange is appreciated.Accommodation
Dorm room with private bathroom. Private room may be available depending on availability. Food is supplied and any additional food is very inexpensive here. Laundry services available. You have the full use of a shared kitchen and we often cook for each other. Common room, billiards room, backyard tiki hut, fire pit and grill also.
What else ...
On your time off, we can organize safaris to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and other destinations. Trips to Mt. Kilimanjaro, Hot Springs and Zanzibar can also be arranged. You will wake up to a beautiful view of Mt. Meru every morning. The vibe here is carefree and very much like a family - you will be well taken care of. Transportation to and from either Arusha or Kilimanjaro airports can be arranged.
