I am an Italian young woman and I am the owner , it is a hostel in a fisherman village 50km south of Dakar not far from the new airport. I live in Italy at the moment but I have a great support in managing the structure from Angelo, the manager, Astu and Ablaye.
I am looking during the year for some smart help from workawayers.
In Senegal the official language is French. Locals speak only Wolof and French. So, workawayers, in order to interact with the staff and with clients, must have at least a sound knowledge in understanding and speaking French.
More or less I need help (according to needs and the season) in the following tasks: 1) cleaning rooms and toilets, 2) in cleaning the kitchen until 11:00 max; 3) gardening, 4) bricolage according to capability and inspiration ; 5) reception of guests; 6) interacting with guest willing to talk, 7) go to shopping in the local markets (Rufisque); 8)help in social projects, 9) helping in making advertising and posting pictures in our social pages facebook and instagram according to personal inspiration.
We are looking for workawayers also able to "survive" in African context. Senegal is not London, so you must be flexible to situations that are not common in developed countries. Indeed, we give preference to those workawayers that already travelled and worked in other African countries, South America, pacific area, etc.. We are in Africa and maybe there will be some black out of electricity, there are not shopping malls or glovo or deliveroo, but street markets in the villages around. Africa means also mosquitos and nature that dominates human spaces.
Toubab Dialaw is a very quiet fisherman village where time does not exist, The sun is always on from 7 am to 7 pm, and the night is only lighted by the moon and a million of stars. I guarantee accommodation in a double room for a maximum of 2 persons with shared bath and free access to the kitchen. I do not offer food since there is not a restaurant service at the moment (in any case food is not expensive:)
Senegal is a muslim country even very tolerant with other cultures and religions. You just need to respect people by: do not smoking when you walk on the street. For women: just covering your legs with long skirt or trousers under the knees, other dressed are ok. In the beach you can of course take the sun in bikini 😊
