    Description

Hi! We are Bob and Eline, and together with our cat Nott and puppy Frodo, we live in Zeewolde. Next year January/February, we are emigrating to northern Spain. We are currently selling our house in Zeewolde and we would love some help with packing.

A little bit about us: Bob works full-time and Eline works two mornings a week. We're busy people with a slight dose of ADHD, meaning that we don't have a specific rhythm in living our lives. We're busy learning Spanish, packing our stuff, dealing with paperwork that comes with emigration, etc. And... last but not least: raising our intense and energetic eight months old puppy Frodo.

We live in a terraced house in a residential area with both a front and back garden, but that doesn’t mean we lack nature. Zeewolde is a village in the Flevopolder, right in the middle of the Netherlands. We’re just 200 meters from the beach and 500 meters from a forest. The natural surroundings here are beautiful, with lots of wildlife. There aren’t many nice pubs, shops or bars in Zeewolde (we’re not really the going-out types anyway), but cities like Utrecht, Amersfoort, and Zwolle are all less than an hour away by public transport.

I (Eline) have traveled a lot through WorkAway across Europe (and a bit beyond) and know how exciting — and at times nerve-racking — it can be. I’ve worked on farms with animals, done gardening in the countryside, and also helped out in a terraced house in a busy city. A bit of everything! I know better than anyone what can make a WorkAway a great experience, though of course that’s different for everyone…

We're not offering a typical WorkAway, so here are a few things you should know:

    - We host for a maximum of about one week at a time.
    - We have good public transport connections to cities, but it takes a bit more time as there’s only bus stations in town, not a train station.
    - We live in a village, in a residential area, not on a farm — though we are very close to nature, of course!
    - We appreciate assertiveness. You will be part of our family for some time, so we like it when you are pro-active. Think about cleaning after yourself, cooking for a day as well, walking the dog, etc. Just the ‘normal’ stuff you would do at your house, too.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We’re social creatures in our own way. We’re not much into going out, but we really enjoy playing games, having meaningful conversations, cozy cocktail nights, dinner parties, etc. So for us, this WorkAway is also a cultural exchange. We find it important (and honestly just really fun as well) to open our home to others — not just for the good vibes, but also to learn from other people, languages, customs, and traditions.

  • Help

    Help

As we mentioned before, we don’t offer a standard WorkAway. In and around the house, there are always tasks waiting that we don’t always get around to. I (Eline) get tired very quickly due to a chronic illness. The little projects I used to be able to do in a heartbeat now take twice or even three times as long. We would love to get some basic help around the house, while we’re trying to come to terms with this new reality together, we try to not let it take too much of our mental energy. Life is a gift, life is an adventure, life is a playground.

So, the tasks that we have laying around! They will vary from time to time, but this will give you a general idea:

    - Walking the dog two times a day, around 45 minutes to an hour each time.
    - We have a front and back garden that could use some attention, mainly tidying up.
    - Help with packing our stuff in boxes.
    - Cooking dinners, meal preps.
    - A deep clean of the house, which I (Eline) would love to help you with.
    - Sorting and organizing cupboards and cabinets.
    - (If you speak Spanish, we’d be so thrilled! A bit of tutoring in Spanish is definitely something we’re looking for too.)

    Accommodation

We live in a nice house with three floors and a garden. You’ll have your own bedroom on the first floor with a double bed. You’ll share the bathroom with us, as well as all the other spaces in the house. Since Bob works full-time, he only joins for dinner. We share meals, but I (Eline) tend to sometimes skip lunch. There's always food in the house to your availability. We eat everything, but we’re more than happy to adjust our meals to suit your dietary preferences.

    Nott

Just your typical house cat. She tolerates Frodo, even though she always joins him on walks outside. Nott's like furniture, she's just there.

The sweetest, most active dog on the planet. He doesn't have ADHD, he's simply a border collie.
