    Description

Namaste, I am Khamish, and I was born in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, north of India, where I run an organic permaculture project. I started this ambitious project in March 2016 on my family’s land, and since then, with the help of volunteers, I’ve been taking small steps towards achieving my dream.

I attended a permaculture design course in Jordan and Tanzania, and I’m working to spread that knowledge in my local community.

We are making permaculture education for farmers and children, where they can learn about practical organic farming with natural resources. The heart of our project is a beautiful tree house that provides a great panoramic view of the area, as well as plenty of shade for other plants to grow and for people to hang out.

The work of volunteers is expected during weekdays, while staying on site. We work when it is not too hot in the early morning and late afternoon. Then after sunset we eat and share conversation, food and music if you want to.

We provide 3 healthy organic meals a day, fruits, mineral water and masala chai or mint tea. If you want to cook for yourself it’s also possible. To cover the costs of food we need to ask a fee of Rs per day ( 150Rs )

Volunteers can sleep on the tree house rooftop under the stars (plenty of blankets provided) or in a room in our house, where there’s a double bed and a fan.

We speak Hindi and English. Children are most welcome with their parents or guardians. We are generally vegetarians and we are not moralizing about alcohol but prefer to abstain ourselves.

We’re located in Neembasar, 110km outside the beautiful historic town of Jaisalmer and 45km from Barmer. To reach our farm, take any bus running between Jaiselmer and Barmer and get off at Shiv. From Shiv, take a local rickshaw (around 200rps).

During your free time you can walk around families, learn embroidery art, cooking food like chapati and chai, play with the children or just relax in the shade. If you want teaching children English and maths (here live about 30 children from 0 to 16 years, as school is faraway some children do not go to school).
