  • Description

This is a non-profit educational program for local children initiated by a local guesthouse.

My name is Lucien. I started the guesthouse 11 years ago with the help of my parents. Our eco-friendly guesthouse is situated in a small village(Pu Gao Lao Zhai) amongst 300 local ethnic minorities, overlooking the famous Yuanyang rice terraces. With the beautiful scenery, this village attracts a lot of tourists every year. Our village is enchanting and original in its own way but we are facing an enormous problem – villagers don’t have environmental awareness. Our guesthouse’s first and foremost concern is that of environmental protection. It is very important that volunteers who come share our values.

It is my dream to bring in a team of volunteers from around the world to help educate the local children. There is no local school for children under the age of 14. We run lessons for children to teach them about environment protection (e.g. recycling) and important values in life, e.g. love and respect for nature and for each other. We use English as a means to end. We provide comfortable accommodation to our volunteers and we expect them to sincerely love children and therefore hope for their wellbeing. Volunteers should stay for at least one month. We are currently working towards having a stable team of teachers to make the project a sustainable one.

On February 2018 we have set up an Environmental Protection Team with the local children. One of the essential activity of this team is picking up the garbage around the village which could help children to establish environmental protection awareness.

We have a garden with our own ecosystem and compost system, and a few animals on site - two friendly dogs with their puppies, a cat, lots of ducks and many baby chicks that roam the land. This makes us the perfect place for volunteers who are interested in green living and sustainability.

Volunteers would have an experience to live in a small authentic Chinese village of 300 local people. You'd have the joy of working with children, and teaching English and other important things. I am also happy to teach volunteers Mandarin and cultural customs such as a Chinese Tea Ceremony. Not to mention the beautiful landscape to wake up to, overlooking the endless rice terraces. There are many treks and hikes and markets to visit around the area.

  • Help

I am looking for a team of volunteers to help teach English to local children and I am also welcome volunteers who are interested in both organic agriculture and teaching. I am looking for people who can commit to a minimum of one month. Ideally, we would have a team of 5 volunteers at one time, one person to help small tasks such as cooking and recycling for the volunteer team, 3 people to help to teach, leaving the last person to relax and enjoy the beautiful location. The roles could rotate as desired.
