    Description

    Groetjes from Utrecht!

We are Luciën (male, 41) and Monika (female, 46) and live in an apartment block next to the ancient river Rijn and 10 mins cycling from the city centre. Monika's day to day schedule is lecturing at the Hague university and Luciën spends his days working from home or performing (music/theatre). We are very involved in creating an open-minded community with our neighbouring apartment blocks.

We've recently created a community green space where native plants have been planted to attract a variety of insects and birds.

In September, we will be celebrating 70 years and are organising a street festival to increase social cohesion and increase awareness of green projects in the area.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Both Monika and Luciën are fluent in English, Dutch, German, Polish. Monika also speaks Bahasa Indonesia, Malayu and can understand Russian, Ukrainian, Czech, Slovak. She has travelled extensively throughout the world running various educational/ cultural projects. More exotic places include Borneo, Sumatra, Papua New Guinea, Peru and Nepal. We'd be particularly happy to host workawayers from these places.

Luciën speaks Frisian and grew up within the West-Frisian culture. He has extensive knowledge of history and politics and being a musician and a theatre practicioner would enjoy jamming sessions with other musicians.

We are interested in learning some construction skills for projects around our house, specifically plastering and carpentry.

  • Help

    Help

The green community space needs some mowing and care on a regular basis with a workawayer working independently. We are looking for a person knowledgeable in native horticulture, permaculture and with green fingers to come up with new ideas and introduce an even bigger variety in the green space.

If you have experience with organising a social event or a special talent you want to share for our festival in September (music, street arts, workshops) as well as helping out with setting the festival up we'd be delighted to hear from you.

We are also looking for a specific person with knowledge on building an outdoor (pizza/bread) oven.

In addition, we would love to have a cultural exchange and learn some cultural baking and cooking techniques. (Have you even made a vegan kimchi? ;)) )

We don't eat red meat or chicken (fish and dairy ok) and would prefer to not have them in the house. No smoking nor alcohol in the house.
Food will be provided but we would like to share in the preparation of the meals and the workawayer is welcome to eat independently as well.
