    Description

Hello there!! I'm glad you found us and that you're interested in joining us in our house! Let us introduce. We are a Portuguese/Brazilian family of 3: Julia, David and Isaac, our 18 months old baby.

We are currently moving to a quiet village in Alcanede, in the area of Santarém - Portugal. It's a beautiful house we are going to remodel during the next couple of months. After that, we will move in and will need someone to help out with our baby while we work - we both work at home.

We offer accomodation, food and a small salary to compensate the extra hour we will need (6h/day).

In the other sections I will be describing more in depth what we can offer you and what we need from you! Please reach out to us if you have any questions or suggestions :)

    Thanks!
    David, Julia & Isaac

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

If you are looking to live in a really Portuguese community and experience the local life, this is the perfect opportunity. We are on the country side, in a very calm small village, where you can go to the cafés and get to know the culture other than what you would see in touristic places.

You will find a loving and young family here, we will be your Portuguese speaking friends! And talking about Portuguese, we can definitely help you if you want to learn the language!

If you like the peace and calm, this is the perfect place for you. If you love children, even more. We will obviously be your friends, but your best little friend will be Isaac, and believe me, he is a loyal friend!

Please reach out to us if you have any questions!

*I know it's a big text but please read it if you're really interested in this exchange!*

So basically, all we need is for you to take care of our baby boy while we work, 6h/day. 5h are included in the exchange for food and accomodation, and we will pay for the extra daily hour.

We just need to know is Isaac's physical, emotional and intellectual needs are being met, and of course, that he is having fun while developing in his own rhythm to reach his full potential as the beautiful, smart and wonderful soul that he is!

We are learning and practicing different alternative methods to raise him. Montessori is the one we relate the most, and it's the one Julia studied in a Introductory course and practiced with children while working as an English Teacher and Au Pair. (Other methods such as Waldorf, Pikler, Reggio Emilia, positive discipline and other conscious parenting and educational methods are also welcome and we would love to learn if you know something about them.)

If you have no idea what I am talking about but you LOVE children and education, we would love to pay for you to study the Montessori Method in a small course, workshop or something. Basically our vision is for him to grow independently and develop autonomy in his activities but with a lot of support and love, and to have a child led education. We follow his lead and offer materials and activities to support what he is interested and we notice he is ready for.

We would love for you to work on languages with him, speaking in English and other languages you may know. We also would love for you to take him to the kitchen, and with no rush, prepare food with his help, take him to do the laundry with you, show him how to hang the clothes to dry, etc.
You can also encourage him to dress and undress himself, help him clean his own mess (with your help of course), choose his clothes (from the clothes we choose first lol). These practical life activities are a big part of the Montessori Method.

We will also have a garden and a playroom for you to play together when the house is ready!

We know the importance of having a routine for his age to encourage their natural sense of order, although we are not always so good at it, so we would love you to help us on that! The routine will work like this:
9am: wake him up if he's still sleeping and give him a bottle, get his diaper changed and get him dressed, help him make the bed, open windows and general pick up the room
10am: encourage him to play with the montessori materials and develop activities that we will show you
11am: have a snack, maybe a picnic in the garden and then free and open ended play - outside, fun games with nature objects, etc if the weather is good
12am: give him a bath and more play time
1pm: give him lunch, allow him to help out with setting the table and cleaning up the kitchen
1:30-2pm: put him in bed for his naptime and if there is time left you can pick up the mess he always leaves behind :D
After 2pm: you are free to explore, to enjoy time however you wish!

I think this gives you a good idea what your days will look like on this exchange and what they can look like for you. Can't wait to welcome you into our house for this beautiful exchange.
