  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

The hospital compound comprises the hospital and administrative buildings. The staff residences are a few minutes walk along a narrow track, interspersed with many mango trees from which you will see monkeys swinging. There is no mains electricity in the hospital or village but we have power 7-10pm each night via the generator and at intermittently at other times
You will have a private room and bathroom in separate accommodation to us as a family but close by. The climate is hot all year round and either dry (Sept-April) or humid (May-August). There is good running water, which is essential to be able to cool off from the constant heat! Expect to sweat a lot! We enjoy it when the power is on and the fans can run.

    What else ...

The hospital attracts a significant number of expat volunteers - mainly British, Dutch, German and other europeans. The majority have a medical role in the hospital. This means that although it is a small remote place it is not entirely socially isolated. Trips to the beaches on the stunning Freetown peninsular at the weekends are possible. Otherwise it is a quiet life in the jungle, walks and jogs in the early morning are possible.
