Description
Hello! My name is Salvador and together with my family we practice permaculture. We love nature! We have a very austere and happy life. Among our main activities, we carry out tasks in our house, in the native plant nursery, in the orchard, on the farm and we are also in charge of a community conservation area, and of course we carry out other personal and family leisukre activities. We are located in the north of Chile, in a rural area, near the coast in the Ovalle commune, in the Coquimbo region. We live inside a small community
near the "Parque Nacional Bosque Fray Jorge", a site that protects the last humid forest near the desert. In the community we live very united and trust, security, pristine night skies, clean air, silence, tranquility, biodiversity and rural culture are still maintained.
¡Hola! Me llamo Salvador y junto a mi familia practicamos la permacultura. ¡Amamos la naturaleza! Tenemos una vida muy austera y feliz. Dentro de nuestras principales actividades realizamos tareas en nuestra casa, en el vivero de plantas nativas, en la huerta, en la granja y también estamos encargados de un área conservación comunitaria, y por supuesto hacemos otras acciones de esparcimiento personales y familiares. Estamos ubicados en la zona norte de Chile, en un sector rural, cerca de la costa en la comuna de Ovalle, en la región de Coquimbo. Vivimos al interior de una pequeña comunidad cerca del "Parque Nacional Bosque Fray Jorge", sitio que resguarda el último bosque húmedo cerca del desierto. En la comunidad vivimos muy unidos y aún se mantiene la confianza, la seguridad, cielos nocturnos prístinos, aire limpio, silencio, tranquilidad, biodiversidad y cultura rural.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
By visiting us, you will be able to experience our way of life. A country life, surrounded by nature and good people. Only twenty families live here in community, in a form of land ownership called "agricultural community", unique in the world, in which together with the neighbors we organize and participate to live well. Our community is inserted in the Fray Jorge Biosphere Reserve and we are neighbors of the Parque Nacional Bosque Fray Jorge, a national park that protects an ancient humid forest in the middle of an arid ecosystem. In our community the water and air are still clean and on clear nights you can see a pristine night sky for stargazing.
You will be part of the family, we will share our experiences teaching everything about our way of life and we hope that you share your experience with us to collaborate chemically.
Al visitarnos, podrás experimentar nuestra forma de vida. Una vida de campo, rodeados de naturaleza y gente buena. Aquí vivimos en comunidad, en una forma de tenencia de la tierra llamado "comunidad agrícola", única en el mundo, en la cual junto a los vecinos nos organizamos y participamos para vivir bien. Nuestra comunidad está inserta en la Reserva de Biosfera Fray Jorge y somos vecinos del Parque Nacional Bosque Fray Jorge, un parque nacional que resguarda un antiguo bosque húmedo en pleno ecosistema árido. En nuestra comunidad aún se mantiene el agua y aire limpio y en las noches despejadas se puede apreciar un cielo nocturno pristino para la observación de las estrellas.
Tu serás parte de la familia, compartiremos nuestras experiencias enseñando todo sobre nuestra forma de vida y esperamos que tú nos compartas tu experiencia para colaborarnos mutuamente.

We can share experiences and support each other. We need support in the main projects that we describe below:
1) NURSERY OF NATIVE PLANTS: This is an initiative that seeks to propagate native plants to recover the native flora, these plants are sold or exchanged and in this way we subsist economically, also with that income we can continue reproducing plants and contribute to reforestation, environmental education actions and other actions we do in the community and surroundings. I am in charge of the nursery and the tasks that are done here and that you could help are: a) Collection of seeds and cuttings. b) Make seedlings c) Irrigation of plants. d) Gardening work (pruning) e) Repairs and maintenance. (Carpentry) f) Customer service and sale of plants.
2) BIOCONTRUCTION (ecological construction): We are building a house and other spaces with bioconstruction, especially with the "quincha" and clay technique. We plan to build a house, a family clean point, planters and other spaces. Within the construction tasks are the following tasks in which you could help: a) Collection of material (clay, plant pruning, stones, etc.) b) Partition construction (wood structure) c) Manufacture of clay (clay, straw and sand) d) stuccoed with mud. e) Application of revocations. 3) FARM: With the family we have a small farm with poultry, sheep and goats that allow us to generate products such as eggs and cheese that are sold or exchanged and thus generate income. My mother (Fidelina) is in charge of the farm and among the tasks that are carried out and that you could help: a) feed the animals b) Cleanliness of corrals c) Maintenance (repair) of fences and corrals. d) Egg collection
4) COMMUNITY FLORA AND FAUNA CONSERVATION AREA: We are also in charge of a site that the community designated for the recovery of the semi-arid ecosystem. Native trees have been planted there, a bird trough is maintained, a fog catcher was built that collects the water from the clouds and there is an interpretive trail for environmental education. My brother (Jorge) is in charge of this site and these are some of the tasks you could help with: a) Change of water and cleaning of trough b) Tree irrigation c) Gardening d) Maintenance (fence repairs and signage improvements) e) Construction of trails or viewpoints f) Educational tours with visiting public.
Podemos compartir experiencias y apoyarnos. Necesitamos apoyo en los principales proyectos que describimos a continuación:
1) VIVERO DE PLANTAS NATIVAS: Este es una iniciativa que busca propagar las plantas nativas para recuperar la flora autóctona, estas plantas se venden o intercambian y de esa manera subsistimos económicamente, además con ese ingreso podemos seguir reproduciendo plantas y aportar a la reforestación, acciones de educación ambiental y otras acciones que hacemos en la comunidad y alrrededores. Yo estoy a cargo del vivero y las tareas que aquí se hacen y que tú podrías ayudar son:
a) Colecta de semillas y esquejes.
b) Hacer almácigos
c) Riego de plantas.
d) Labores de jardinería (podas)
e) Reparaciones y mantenimiento. (Carpinteria)
f) Atención al público y venta de plantas.
2) Bioconstrucción (construcción ecológica): Estamos construyendo una casa y otros espacios con bioconstrucción, especialmente con la técnica de "quincha" y arcilla. Tenemos proyectado construir una casa, un punto limpio familiar, jardineras y otros espacios. Dentro de las labores de construcción están las siguientes tareas en las cuales tu podrías ayudar:
a) Recolección de material (arcilla, podas de plantas, piedras, etc.)
b) Construcción de tabiquería (estructura en madera)
c) Elaboración del barro (arcilla, paja y arena)
d) estucado con barro.
e) Aplicación de revocaciones.
3) GRANJA:
Con la familia tenemos una pequeña granja con aves de corral, ovejas y cabras que permiten generar productos como huevos y quesos que se venden o intercambian y de esa forma generan ingresos. Mi madre (Fidelina) está a cargo de la granja y dentro de las tareas que se realizan y que tú podrías ayudar:
a) Alimentar a los animales
b) Aseo de corrales
c) Mantención (reparación) de cercos y corral.
d) Colecta de huevos
4) ÁREA DE CONSERVACIÓN DE FLORA Y FAUNA COMUNITARIA: También estamos a cargo de un sitio que la comunidad destinó para la recuperación del ecosistema semiárido, allí se han plantado árboles nativos, se mantiene un abrevadero para aves, se construyó un atrapanieblas que recoge el agua de las nubes y hay un sendero interpretativo para educación ambiental. Mi hermano (Jorge) está a cargo de este sitio y estas son algunas de las tareas en las que tu podrias ayudar:
a) Cambio de agua y limpieza de abrevadero
b) Riego de arboles
c) Jardineria
d) Mantenciones (reparaciones de cercos y mejoras de señalética)
e) Construcción de senderos o miradores
f) Recorridos educativos con público visitante.

Accommodation
For your stay we have camping sites (2) for the installation of tents. The sites have shade (tree), tables and chairs and electricity. Near the sites there is drinking water.
TENTS: We have a tent, sleeping bag and blankets for your stay.
BATHROOMS: We have a shared ecological bathroom (dry toilet), with an ecological shower (manual) and only cold water.
LAUNDRY: To wash clothes there is a manual laundry and common clotheslines.
TELEPHONY AND INTERNET: In the place there is access to a telephone network and low-quality mobile internet connection.
ELECTRICITY: We have electricity through a photovoltaic solar panel, therefore its use is restricted to lighting and low consumption appliances.
ORDER AND CLEANLINESS: It is important to maintain order and cleanliness throughout the place. Each one is responsible for their things and waste, separating them and disposing of them in the corresponding containers. We will have the detergent to wash clothes but with the condition that it must be used efficiently.
EFFICIENCY: We are used to using resources efficiently, especially water, electricity, gas and firewood, therefore it is a basic rule to be efficient in the consumption of resources.
TRANSPORTATION: To get around you mainly use your feet, you can also hitchhike and there is a bus that runs from the nearest city (Ovalle) once a day on Monday and Friday of each week.
WAY OF LIFE: Our way of life is calm, in peace and with daily subsistence activities. We also carry out various non-profit environmental and community education and management activities. Personally, we really like to reflect, share and generally we are contemplating nature, hiking, camping, retreats, nature photography among other leisure actions for ourselves.
We will have the basic supplies for your food. We can eat together or separately. BREAKFAST: fruits, vegetables, tea, herbs, mate, coffee, milk, artisan bread, cereals (quinoa), sugar, salt, chicken eggs and jams. LUNCH: vegetables, fruits, noodles, rice, salt, quinoa, legumes, soups, dressings and oil. We also have crockery such as cups, plates, glasses, spoons, etc. The crockery is washed by each one manually.
SUPERMARKET: In the community there is no supermarket, therefore everything is bought in the nearest city (Ovalle). Once a week vendors pass street vendors.
Para tu estadía disponemos de sitios de camping (2) para la instalación de carpas. Los sitios tienen sombra (árbol), mesas y sillas y electricidad. Cerca de los sitios hay agua potable.
CARPAS: Disponemos de carpa, saco de dormir y frasadas para tu estadía.
BAÑOS: Tenemos un baño ecológico (baño seco) compartido, con ducha ecológica (manual) y solo agua fría.
LAVANDERÍA: Para lavar la ropa se dispone de lavadero manual y tendederos comunes.
TELEFONÍA E INTERNET: En el lugar hay acceso a red de telefonía y conexión a internet móvil de baja calidad.
ELECTRICIDAD: Tenemos electricidad a través de panel solar fotovoltaico, por lo tanto su uso es restringido a iluminación y electrodomésticos de bajo consumo.
ORDEN Y ASEO: Es importante mantener el orden y el aseo en todo el lugar. Cada uno se hace responsable de sus cosas y residuos separandolos y disponiendolos en los contenedores que corresponden. Nosotros dispondremos del detergente para lavar ropa pero con la condición de que debe ser usado eficientemente.
EFICIENCIA: Nosotros estamos costumbrados a usar eficientemente los recursos, especialmente el agua, la electricidad, el gas y la leña, por lo tanto es una regla básica ser eficiente en el consumo de los recursos.
TRANSPORTE: Para movilizarte principalmente se usan los pies, también puedes hacer dedo y hay un bus que recorre desde la ciudad más cercana (Ovalle) una vez al día los lunes y viernes de cada semana.
FORMA DE VIDA: Nuestra forma de vida es tranquila, en paz y con actividades diarias de subsistencia. Realizamos también distintas actividades de educación y gestión ambiental y comunitaria sin fines de lucro. De manera personal, nos gusta harto reflexionar, compartir y generalmente estamos realizando contemplación de la naturaleza, caminatas, camping, retiros, fotografía de naturaleza entre otras acciones de esparcimiento para nosotros mismos.

En tu tiempo libre puedes hacer lo que gustes, de todas maneras aquí les dejamos algunas alternativas: a) salir a caminar por senderos o montañas de la comunidad. b) visitar el Parque Nacional Bosque Fray Jorge, c) visitar la costa d) hacer observación de aves y fauna en general, e) meditar f) salir a trotar o correr, g) observar el cielo nocturno, h) viajar a ciudad cercana (Ovalle), i) visitar la playa, j) visitar el monumento natural Valle del Encanto, k) visitar el Santuario de La Naturaleza Humedal Río Limarí, entre otros
