    Description

Hello! We are a family of four living on the beautiful Northern California coast. We are Joy and Conner, with toddler Frances and baby Fern. We are working on settling into our new property, with many visions of creating a little homestead here. Our land borders redwood forest that needs some loving tending, as it was logged many years ago. We would like to make trails and thin the trees. We also want to create a year round garden. We are mainly looking for help with projects around the property and home. We traveled with workaway when we were younger and so appreciated the loving exchange of help and welcoming accommodation, and the cultural exchange and learning that comes with it. Come help us create community together with our little family and the lovely land that we call home.

Some important things about us that we'd like to connect on before you inquire to come stay:
As we are a family with two young children, our days can be lively, but we keep quiet times and go to bed generally early. We are a non smoking, no drugs and no drinking household. Our sobriety is an important part of our lifestyle and we ask that others who come into our space honor that by not using substances while staying with us. We are also a vegetarian household, and we would prefer no meat be kept in the kitchen here. We have a strong spiritual practice that is a very important aspect of our lives. We love to meet others around the centering principles of spirituality, and we desire to be around people who honor the reverence of this world we live in and the preciousness of life. Any people who come stay with us should be amiable to all of the above as well as enjoy being around children and able to interact accordingly.

This slice of pacific coastline is a beautiful and vibrant place. There is a lot to learn here from the land, from the redwood forests to the marine life of the sea. Conner is a hobbyist natural builder and massage therapist, ever learning about ways to create beautiful and sustainable dwellings for a new future, with serious interests in design, healthy living, and art. Joy is a yoga teacher with a home practice who is happy to share that space with visitors, with interests in somatic movement as therapy, the art of mothering, and wellness in general. As a family, we aim to practice love and connection in the ways we communicate and coexist, and we are always taking lots of time to play outside and ground in nature. Our home and property offers lots of opportunities to learn/develop skills in building, land management and gardening, along with health and wellness.

  • Help

    Help

Help with whatever projects we are working on - examples of things we want to do: create new fencing, renovating a little shed with recycled materials, taking down some old structures, thinning trees/cutting back growth and making forest trails, creating garden beds and nurturing soil in order to plant in the spring/summer, little home renovation projects, natural landscaping / creating permaculture and herb gardens, creating a natural swimming pool...
Help with cleaning and tidying around the house and possibly even meals may be appreciated too.

We would especially love help from folks who have experience/interest in natural building, earthen structures, permaculture and non invasive land management and gardening methods, as well as people who have experience being with young children and are familiar with the joys and challenges that accompany this stage of life.

    Accommodation

We have a guest room inside our home with a very comfortable organic queen size bed and a small closet, It has the best views of the land! The room is carpeted with wool carpet and has a small dresser. Our home has one bathroom that we all share, with a big clawfoot tub. We have high speed internet, a beautiful (vegetarian) kitchen, an office space that can be shared if needed, and a spacious living room for eating and lounging and playing. As mentioned above, we generally rise and set with the sun, so anyone staying in the house would be expected to keep quiet hours after dark and not be bothered by loud activity once the kids are awake.

For couples or families needing more space, we also have a lovely renovated school bus situated at the eastern end of our property, with its own private kitchen and bathroom. This space can be made available if we think it would be the best fit for your visit, or if we have multiple workawayer's staying at one time. There is also a spot to park a campervan and hook up to power and water.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There are many ways to spend free time here- walking on the bluffs above the ocean, reading a book on the beach, hiking through redwood forests. We are 5 minutes to the town of Fort Bragg, which has several grocery stores, a weekly farmers market, a library, a movie theater, restaurants and stores. We have bikes that can be used to get into the town and the beach (a 5 min bike ride), and we also have a truck that could maybe be used if needed. Car is the best transportation for this area and getting around to a wider radius. There is a bus system that serves our rural area on a limited schedule, and connects us to the Bay Area, which is a large urban area with much to offer.
