We run on a dream to provide education that teaches analytical thinking skills with the use of English language to underprivileged children of Thailand, beginning from the first grade of primary school. With the inspiration from the late King Bhumibol of Thailand, we aim to help the poor and underprivileged children develop their analytical skill and English ability by bringing the teaching method of international schools into the Thai schools for the poor. In the meantime, we connect with around ten schools in northern Thailand, reaching out to hundreds of students.
It will be a great opportunity to practice teaching skills on a concrete project, and to make a difference in the lives of the children here in Thailand, and eventually around the world. Also, volunteers will have chances to explore the beauty and the unique culture of Thailand and countries nearby, making the South East Asia journey more meaningful and rewarding, by combining volunteering work and travelling together.
We are looking for volunteers, 20 years old and above, to teach English to poor children in Chiang Rai and Nan. The schools provide meals and accommodation and we will also provide stipend to volunteers that can stay for 5 - 9 months in Thailand. Applicants should be fluent in English and have a degree or be a college student. We hope that our volunteers would be able to help out our teaching in the northern provinces of Thailand. They will be teaching with our lesson videos in the English language covering five different subjects (Math, English, Health Education, Social Studies and Science). During the weekends, the volunteers could spend some time exploring the beautiful scenery and culture of northern Thailand.
We embrace the uniqueness of an English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom, and use it to our full advantage by discovering and implementing new ways of appealing to students of different learning styles, cultures, and walks of life, in order to engage them in our learning environment.
You will get a private room with a shared bathroom normally in the school's housing shared by some other volunteers or Thai teachers. Since our partner schools are located in the rural areas of Chiang Rai and Nan, the environment is basic, which means A/C, washer/dryer are not provided.
We believe every child should be entitled to an opportunity of quality education. Generally speaking, the children in Thailand are taught to memorize and repeat, rather than analytical thinking. Here at the Foundation, we encourage and challenge students to go beyond memorization and instead to independently analyze and understand issues, while discovering how to methodically and efficiently resolve them. We feel strongly that this approach leads to greater understanding, retention, and success, both in and outside of the classroom.
Simply speaking, the idea of the project is to provide an opportunity for underprivileged children to develop analytical skills, and to learn the English language at the same time. One of the many attributes that makes our education method unique, is this dual purpose curriculum. Teaching analytical thinking skills is the heart of our organization, and teaching the English language is the channel through which we will achieve it. In addition to an English language class, our students study many other subjects in English as well, such as Math, Social Studies, Science, Health and Art, making our students into all-round kids.
