    Helping Off the Grid

My wife and I are retired academic psychologists and avid birdwatchers. We live part of the year off the grid in a cabin in Storm Bay in the Sechelt Inlet, a beautiful, relatively untouched area of British Columbia three hours from Vancouver. The cabin is accessible only by boat and we are off the grid. However, we have a reliable phone and good Internet connection. There are several other cabins in our bay owned by community members who include a number of artists and socially engaged professionals, most of whom live in Vancouver and come and go during the summer months.

Our site is magical. We enjoy a glittering bay, beautiful mountain views and unbelievable sunsets. We are 15 minutes from Skookumchuck Narrows, a world renowned kayaking site where 200 billion gallons of water surge through at each tide causing amazing whitewater conditions. Yet our bay is serene and a haven for sailors.

    Hilfe Off the Grid

Außerdem sind wir  “off the grid.”

    Accommodation

Our cabin is on the water and is quite comfortable. There are three bedrooms, one of which is an upstairs bedroom for a single volunteer or couple. We also have several deck platforms for tents. We have indoor hot and cold running water, an outdoor hot water shower, wood-fired sauna and two outhouses (well-ventilated, with bidet toilet seats). We eat healthy food, many of our vegetables we grow in our community garden.

    ---------------

    What else ...

We have kayaks, canoe, row boat, 2 paddle boards, 2 sail boards. We have a sauna and swimming off the dock. There are endless hiking trails into the wilderness. The nearest town, Sechelt, is a 35-minute speed-boat trip distant. We can only be reached by water. We go into Sechelt at least once a week and can provide transportation. Phone calls are possible, texting works well from inside the cabin and email is reliable.

    -------------
