Our non-profit organisation, Youth Development Association, started in 2005.
Our goal is to improve the social and economic welfare of the disadvantaged youth of Kiganda Kawempe district (Kampala) through provision of education and support.
Currently working on 2 projects:
- concerning Street Children
- HIV Care & Support
this was developed in 2013 together with the local leaders and in agreement with what was discussed in the National Council for Children Meeting, whose main issue was the development of a strategy to minimize child labor in the communities.
It aims at improving the welfare of the street children giving them the possibility to leave street life and build their future. Under this project we do rescuing, rehabilitation and resettlement.
Our children are mainly boys, between 7- 15 years old. Since July 2017 we’re able to host them in a dorms in the premises. We provide them with food and basic health care; we follow them in the process of reintegration in the educational system or help them to develop their professional skills organizing after-school activities. We give them and their families psychological support. We interact with the community to make it aware of the phenomenon of the street children.
Our HIV project focuses on young children between the ages of 5-19 years, who are HIV positive.
We conduct community HIV counseling and testing; we do activities providing psycho-social support, education support, and distribute emergency food; we train vocational skills. Furthermore we run a Drop-in center where children and their care givers have the possibility to come for health services and nutritional information.

Throughout their stay, volunteers will be introduced into local cuisine, language and culture.
They will have the possibility to join the day-by-day life of a small Ugandan NGO. Taking part to the activities in class or in the field and also in office duties - including budgeting, administration, meetings, evaluation of the activities - they will get knowledge about how an association is working.
They will also participate to the afternoon activities together with the boys and learn new sports/gain new skills such as break dance, carpentry or gardening.
We are welcoming volunteers into both of our projects for street children and HIV care and support.
We expect from volunteers both to help in our current activities, depending on their knowledge and interests, and to propose new activities that can be significant in the achievement of the objectives of the project.
Our future volunteers are:
