    Description

We live in a rural setting in south Kerry, overlooking a mountain and a lake. We are also not too far from some lovely beaches for walking and cold water swimming. It’s peaceful and calm here, a restorative sort of place.
The cottage is an old one, a very good place for a restful stay. There is also a small art studio here for creative activities. There is an acre and a half of land, most of it kept with wildlife in mind.
We’d like to make a vegetable garden and some outdoor structures eg. A compost toilet.
We are a couple in the house. We hope you like this place as much as we do.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

This is a very nice cottage to get away from it all. There are books to read and you can also use the art studio if you would like. On sunny days we like to be outdoors either doing some work or going for a walk at the beach. In the evening we always cook a nice meal, usually vegetarian and we bake bread too.
It’s lovely cooking altogether - you can learn the favourite things others like to make from different parts of the world.
We love all things crafty, so if you are interested there will be a chance to make candles or soap or perhaps make a small peg loom rug or print some leaves on a gelli plate.
It’s nice to have a mixture of space for yourself and together time with your hosts.
In the evening there are a few pubs in Cahersiveen (half an hour away by car) that play music. If you play yourself, they are open sessions free for others to join. We don’t go to the pub too much ourselves but we have friends who play, so could probably get you there!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have two cosy bedrooms - one with a double bed, one with twin beds.
( The twin room doubles up as a craft room, so you’ll share it with balls of wool and gorgeous fabric! )
We share the bathroom and in addition there is another toilet in the store room outside.
The kitchen has the usual things inside. You can make yourself tea and coffee whenever you like and there are always things like fruit, nuts and snacks to hand. We’ll lay out breakfast together and clear up together. Lunch is normally something simple like home made soup and bread, then in the evening we usually cook. It’s very nice to come together and eat and chat.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

What to do locally: there are places you can walk locally eg The Kerry way.
There is very little public transport here, so I will help you as best I can to drop you off or pick up if you have no car.
There is Derrynane House and beach and Kell’s gardens. South Kerry is really more of a place to enjoy nature . An hour and a half away is Dingle, with shops, about the same distance is Killarney town and National Park.
