Description
We are a traveling couple, former workawayers, who have decided to put down roots and grow as a family. We recently settled in a town on the north coast of Gran Canaria called Gáldar. Ulises is a psychologist and currently works at a preschool and primary school. He loves reading, hiking, and being in nature. He tries to make time for sports and studying for his exams. Amara enjoys making music, dancing, cooking, and playing board games. She currently works at a foster home for migrants. We like to take care of our bodies and minds, practice yoga, eat healthy, cultivate observation skills, and start projects we haven't been able to finish yet (like creating a garden on our rooftop). Ulises speaks Spanish, English, and Italian, and Amara speaks Spanish, English, and French, but we wouldn't mind not sharing a language; we'll surely find a way to communicate. Gáldar is a town of 25,000 inhabitants on the north coast of Gran Canaria. It's a touristy but quiet town with a rich cultural life for its size. It is located close to iconic island sites such as Tamadaba Natural Park, the Port of Agaete, the historic center, the Agaete Valley, and the Cueva Pintada, among others. Furthermore, the Gáldar coast boasts numerous natural pools and sandy beaches with magnificent views. (The nearest beach is a 30-minute walk.) Gáldar is well connected to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (the capital) and other parts of the island. Bus services are excellent.
Somos una pareja viajera , antiguos workawayers, que han decidido echar alguna raíz y crecer como familia. Recientemente nos hemos instalado en un pueblo de la costa norte de Gran Canaria, llamado Gáldar.
Ulises es psicólogo y trabaja actualmente en un colegio de infantil y primaria. Le gusta mucho leer, caminar y estar en la naturaleza. Intenta sacar tiempo para hacer deporte y estudiar para sus oposiciones.
A Amara le gusta hacer música, bailar, cocinar y jugar a juegos de mesa. En este momento trabaja en un hogar de acogida para migrantes.
Nos gusta cuidar nuestro cuerpo y nuestra mente, hacer yoga, comer saludable, cultivar la observación y empezar proyectos que no conseguimos terminar por el momento (como hacer un huerto en nuestra azotea).
Ulises habla español, inglés e italiano y Amara español, inglés y francés, pero no nos importaría no compartir el idioma, seguro encontramos la manera de comunicarnos.
Gáldar es un pueblo de 25.000 habitantes en la costa norte Gran Canaria. Es un pueblo turístico pero tranquilo, con una rica vida cultural para su tamaño. Se encuentra cerca de lugares emblemáticos de la isla como el Parque Natural de Tamadaba, el Puerto de Agaete, su casco histórico y el Valle de Agaete o la Cueva Pintada, entre otros. Además, la costa de Gáldar cuenta con numerosas piscinas naturales y algunas playas de arena con vistas magníficas. (A la playa más cercana se puede ir caminando - 30 minutos). Gáldar se encuentra bien comunicada con Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (capital) y otros puntos de la isla. El servicio de autobuses cuenta con buenas conexiones.

We are people who enjoy dialogue, learning about other cultures, customs, and traditions, sharing travel and life experiences and anecdotes. We enjoy debates, reflection, and self-discovery. Sometimes we like to do this through play, such as board games. We also enjoy learning about local recipes and cuisine from anyone who wants to share their experiences with us. The surrounding area offers numerous natural landscapes of great beauty and charm. Ulises is passionate about hiking and knows numerous routes and corners of the island. Gáldar also has several local museums, and cultural events (food fairs, concerts, workshops) are very frequent.
Somos personas a las que les gusta dialogar, conocer otras culturas, costumbres y tradiciones, compartir experiencias de viaje, de vida y anécdotas.
Disfrutamos de los debates, la reflexión y el autoconocimiento. A veces nos gusta hacerlo a través del juego, como con juegos de mesa.
También nos gustaría conocer recetas y la gastronomía propia del lugar de la persona que quiera compartir con nosotros.
El entorno ofrece numerosos parajes naturales de gran belleza y encanto. Ulises es un apasionado del senderismo y conoce numerosas rutas y rincones de la isla.
Gáldar dispone también de varios museos locales y los eventos culturales (ferias de gastronomía, conciertos, talleres) son muy frecuentes.
Help
We recently became parents and have a baby girl who is just a few months old. That's why we would love to have a volunteer who could cook for us and help with some specific household chores, so that we can lighten the load a little for this adventure we've embarked on. The daily workload would not take more than 3 or 4 hours, depending on the pace and needs of the volunteer. The main support we need would be: 1) Cooking lunch and dinner for Ulises and me, moments to which you are, of course, more than welcome if you wish. 2) Going to the supermarket to buy the necessary groceries (there are several supermarkets within a 5-minute walk). 3) Some specific household chores such as sweeping, washing dishes, or watering the plants. We believe this collaboration will work best if the person shares some of our eating style (rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, no ultra-processed foods, etc.).
Recientemente hemos sido papás y tenemos una bebé de apenas unos meses. Es por ello que nos encantaría contar con un/a voluntario/a que nos cocinase y echase una mano en alguna tarea puntual del hogar, de forma que nos pueda aligerar un poco la mochila de esta aventura en la que nos hemos embarcado.
El trabajo diario no supondría más de 3 o 4 horas, en función también del ritmo o necesidades de la persona voluntaria. Los principales apoyos que necesitamos serían:
1) Cocinar almuerzo y cena para Ulises y para mí ,momentos en los que por supuesto están más que invitadas/os si lo desean.
2) Ir a comprar los alimentos necesarios al supermercado (a 5 minutos caminando varios supermercados).
3) Alguna tarea puntual del hogar como barrer, fregar o regar las plantas.
Creemos que esta colaboración funcionará mejor si la persona comparte en cierta medida nuestro estilo de alimentación (rica en fruta y verdura, granos integrales, sin ultraprocesados etc.).

Accommodation
Our house has a small apartment on the roof, which has a spacious bedroom, a bathroom, and a small living and dining room. The roof terrace is large and offers magnificent views. It is very bright and the surroundings are quiet. It is located less than two minutes from the main square and is in the historic center. For now, the kitchen is located in our house, which is on the lower floor. However, the apartment does have a refrigerator, a sink for washing dishes, and basic kitchenware. The shower is cold, but guests can easily shower in the downstairs bathroom. Dinner and lunch can be shared if they wish, but the rest of the meals are the responsibility of the volunteer.
Nuestra casa cuenta con un pequeño apartamento en la azotea, que dispone de habitación espaciosa, baño y pequeño salón comedor. La azotea es grande y disfruta de unas magníficas vistas.
Es muy luminosa y el entorno es tranquilo. Se encuentra a menos de dos minutos de la plaza principal y está en el propio casco histórico.
Por ahora la cocina se encuentra en nuestra casa, que es la planta inferior. Sin embargo, el apartamento si dispone de nevera, pileta para lavar los platos y menaje básico. El agua de la ducha sale fría pero pueden ducharse sin ningún problema en el baño de la planta baja.
La cena y el almuerzo pueden ser compartidas si lo desean pero el resto de comidas corren a cargo de la persona voluntaria.
