    Description

Hi, we are Therese and Travis! We run a Farm - a 14 hectare property of farmland and forest in southern Sweden. We have two kids - Ollie 8 yrs and Alice 5 yrs. We keep bees, have heirloom chicken and want to establish an organic vegetable gardens. In summer we have cows here as well. Our passion is conservation, biodiversity and to restore the cultural heritage of paddocks, forest and buildings. Therese works on the farm and rents out accommodation to tourists in summer. Travis is an ecologist and gardener, and the entire family is bilingual (English/Swedish). In our youth we traveled and volunteered on organic farms in Australia and are therefore very familiar with the work/cultural exchange concept.

Our farm is beautifully situated on the bank of Göta Älv, one of Sweden's largest rivers. The surrounding countryside is farmland and forest with lots of lakes. The property has been in the family since the 1890s and we strive to preserve the cultural heritage of the house by keeping the authentic design and materials where possible. We have recently started a restoration project including re-painting the exterior in traditional linseed oil paint. Since the house is very old and still has a lot of it's original details, we ask work-awayers to respect this and to handle things with care.

Our municipality - Lilla Edet - is full of nature reserves, lakes and hiking trails - great for outdoor activities, including some of the best salmon fishing in the country! The bus stops just 400 meters from our house, and there's a train station in the outskirts of the village. The train to Gothenburg - Sweden's second largest city, takes less than half an hour. Furthermore we are only a 20 minute drive from the coast.

You will be staying in a self-contained apartment on the upper floor in our house, equipped with a kitchen and a newly renovated bathroom. You'll have breakfast and lunch by yourself (food provided) and dinner together with the family.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are members of different local groups and associations, including for example the society for nature preservation and a local transition network, which often organises meetings and workshops on for example social building or communal vegetable gardens.
Travis is an ecologist and natural gardener, and also has a lot of knowledge about traditional tools and building techniques. His passion is scything and he is planning on having courses in scything further down the track.
Therese is interested in historical buildings and cultural heritage.
We're an outdoor family and love to go for hikes, excursions, bike rides and botanical expeditions and would gladly show you some of our favorite spots!
We love meeting people from other cultures and hope for mutual exchange, long lasting relationships and fun! The work that we do on the farm isn't always fun, but if you've got someone to share the workload with, it gets a lot easier. We want to learn about your country and your ways and hope that you will leave us with a positive, memorable experience!
