    Description

We are a family of 4 living in the forested mountains of Alt Penedès, about an hour from Barcelona. Our place is perfect for people looking to reconnect with nature, slow down, and rediscover a wilder rhythm of life.

Our project is rooted in the idea of rewilding, allowing both land and people to return to their natural balance. We are restoring the land around our home, growing some of our own food, and creating simple, welcoming spaces.

Our backgrounds are in acting, music, and creative writing. We’re very much into health, wellness, sustainable living, creativity, and enjoy meeting and spending time with similar-minded souls. Daily life is a blend of practical help: tending the garden, looking after fruit trees, building and maintaining spaces, music, and quiet moments of reflection.

Our space is on a hectare of land surrounded by fruit trees, nut trees, and forests where there are hiking trails to the many wineries and mountains that surround us. There is a saltwater pool for hot days, are 60 minutes from Barcelona, and 35 minutes to the beach.

Staying with us is about more than just helping out, it’s about experiencing a way of life. Some days are full of hands-on work, others are quieter and slower. We cook, share stories, and enjoy the little moments of living close to nature.

We’re a family of artists turned modern-day homesteaders, so our home is always full of life, projects, and good food. We’re not fully self-sufficient yet, but each year we get closer as we improve the property and move toward a sustainable way of living.

In our household, we speak English, Catalan, and Spanish (we’re half Canadian), and we’re passionate about herbalism, music, the healing arts, and mindful living. Living here also means experiencing a vibrant wine and cava region with breathtaking hikes, biking trails, and, for those interested, some of the world’s finest wine and cava. Plus, we’re only about an hour from Barcelona and 35 minutes from the beach.

Volunteers will get hands-on experience with all aspects of Mediterranean homesteading: harvesting almonds, medlars, figs, apples, grapes, oranges, and olives; caring for an organic garden full of vegetables and medicinal plants; maintaining chickens; harvesting rainwater; and building simple wood structures.

Beyond practical skills, you’ll get to experience a lifestyle rooted in creativity, connection to nature, and a slower, more intentional rhythm of life.

We’re looking for volunteers to help with a variety of practical, hands-on tasks around our space. Typical activities include:

Gardening & horticulture: tending the vegetable garden, planting, weeding, and harvesting fruit.

Land and property maintenance: cutting grass, painting, basic carpentry, and general upkeep.

General maintenance: Indoor and outdoor cleaning and assisting with minor repair projects.

Here, there’s always room to learn new skills or share your own. We love volunteers who are flexible, willing to get their hands dirty, and enjoy being part of the daily flow of life in the forest.

We have a caravan by the forest where you will be staying. It includes a double bed, kitchenette, and high-speed internet. The caravan is lined with windows overlooking the forest, so you’ll wake up to birdsong, enjoy plenty of natural light, and see spectacular red sunrises in the morning and sunsets at night.

Outside, there is a wood deck with chairs and a small table where you can eat, relax, or enjoy the view of the trees and wildlife.

Speaking of food, we'll feed you. We eat a wholesome, local Mediterranean diet, make our own bread, jams, kombucha (and more) and enjoy fresh produce from our gardens. Vegetarians are welcome, but we eat a little of everything, so you may want to supplement some meals according to your preferences.

We provide two wholesome meals a day (usually breakfast and dinner). Our focus is on fresh, seasonal, and nourishing food. Snacks, tea, and coffee are available throughout the day, and volunteers are welcome to prepare their own meals or bring extra snacks if they wish.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

This stay is ideal for someone who loves the forest, countryside, and living close to nature.

WE ARE VERY REMOTE, at the end of a series of long dirt roads with no public transportation. The only access is by car or (if you're brave) by bike. The trails around our property are perfect for exploring and the area enjoys plenty of warm, sunny weather.

The nearest town is Vilafranca del Penedès, about a 20-minute drive, where you’ll find buses and trains connecting to major cities like Barcelona and Tarragona. Closer to home, you can enjoy dozens of wineries, hiking trails, mountains, a waterfall with lagoons, and endless forests.

In your time off, you can wander the land, swim in the saltwater pool, relax on the forest deck, read, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet. If you like, you can explore the surrounding countryside, take a day trip to the beach, or explore the local flavors at nearby markets and artisanal food producers. Living here is a chance to disconnect from city life and experience a slower, more intentional rhythm, surrounded by nature.

Meet Daniel LaRusso, one of our 4 hens. She's confident, wise, and brave. She wanders far from the coop, scrapes the ground for worms, and leads her sisters to rest n all the shady spots. She'll peck if she needs to, but "purrs" whenever we pick her up.

Osho, our fluffy white Akita Inu, is a loyal and gentle companion. He loves roaming the forest and garden, keeping an eye on the property, and enjoying the outdoors. He can be a bit reserved around new people at first, but with patience, he’s playful and affectionate—a true part of life at Muntanya Màgica.
