    Description

Hello, my name is Godfrey, I work with a non profit Community based and child focused organization found in Rakai District Uganda. I lead a group of professionals who are committed to improve the well being of less fortunate children and their families.
I am married to Gorreth with three boys, our home is located in a village which is 3kms from the nearby town, 28kms from a bigger town and 148kms from Kampala which is the capital city of Uganda. As a family we love making friends and sharing experiences.

We are community based and child focused. Our passion is to improve the lives of poorest children through education support, healthcare and nutrition, child protection and advocacy. We work together with private and government aided schools, churches and other partner organizations. It is evident that the time we have hosted volunteers, our children both at home and at school have improved their English speaking skills, critical thinking, creative writing and multiple competencies in class. Parents and care givers have also learnt transferable skills that improve their well being and protection of their children. Through our approach (holistic development approach) children will experience a better today and brighter tomorrow. Kindly join us for this cause.

You don't need any qualification to volunteer here, all we need is people with the passion and wiliness to help people who are less fortunate than themselves, however some activities require qualified people in a specific field. I am looking for like minded people of different categories that include teachers, nurses, social workers, architects, fund-raisers, psychologists, book writers, child protection and human rights advocates and those with skills that include environmental management and protection, community and women empowerment, spiritual nurture, rural economic development and early childhood development. Volunteers are needed throughout the year.
Working with us is an excellent opportunity to combine adventurous foreign travel with a worthwhile job as a volunteer. You will improve your transferable skills such as planning, team-working, presentation, communication and rural development. Above all, this is an unrivaled opportunity to gain an insight into a completely different culture and way of life.

We can host intern students from different parts of the World. Our activities are so practical to enable students develop hands on experience of how non government organizations operate.
You can also come and spend your holiday here in a more meaningful way as we share different experiences that will enrich your skills.

Duration of the stay can be discussed with any one interested. Our community people and children are so welcoming and friendly. We have a beautiful weather, anyone can easily adjust to it. Volunteers will have a chance to visit different places here and learn more about our culture and the environment. Expect to have lots of fun with us. Have you ever crossed the equator? Expect this on your first day in Uganda.

If not interested in the above, we can host you as a family. We want to meet new people and make new friends in different parts of the World. Come and teach us English, we also desire to learn different languages. We are so out going friendly and God fearing.

    UGANDAN IMMIGRATION
Entering a new country is exciting and worry-free if you come prepared with the following:

It is advisable that you process a Tourist Visa
You may purchase your visa at the airport upon arrival, or in advance through the Ugandan Embassy. Here are details for each process:
Purchasing visa upon arrival at Entebbe airport.
    1. Once you have disembarked the aircraft, and entered the terminal, join the immigration line
    2. Present your passport along with $50.00 (US) or £60. Your passport will be stamped with a three-month visa. For more than three month seek details from Ugandan embassy.
    3. Proceed directly to baggage collection.
One of us will be happy to welcome you to Uganda.

    Purchasing Visa in Advance
You can purchase a visa in advance - contact your nearest embassy for details.
Passport: You must have a valid passport with at least 1 year before it expires.

    ADVICE ON MONEY
It is important that you bring money in the right form for your personal plan i.e safari. Here is some information to help you make the right choices (please read carefully):
Cash can be exchanged at the airport and different banks. Euros, UK pounds and US dollars are all acceptable and can be exchanged to local to Uganda shilling. If you have US Dollars then only accept large denomination notes of $50 or $100 all the small notes get a lower rate of exchange, and they must be printed after 2007.

    CLOTHES
The people of Uganda generally take great pride in their appearance. You will probably feel under dressed if you bring only old, casual clothing. However this depends on the where you are.
    Here are some hints:
Female visitors will likely feel more comfortable in skirts and dresses, making sure that the knees and shoulders are covered.
Male visitors should plan to bring trousers and button-up shirts.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Working and living in a new country and within an unfamiliar culture provides a great experience for all volunteers and interns. Cultural exchange often involves adapting and learning about a new environment, and this flexibility is a helpful skill for our participants before, during and after the Work & Travel program.

One of the best features of cultural exchange programs is the chance to make new friends for a lifetime.

Continued connection to the host families act as cultural ambassadors to our volunteers, introducing international visitors to Uganda culture during their time as. After experiencing life in the Uganda volunteers may be more likely to return to Uganda.

The cultural exchange will provide the opportunity for volunteers to develop a greater understanding of diversity. Volunteers will interact with and learn from people who are different from themselves and participate in new and unique experiences beyond their own communities. Cultural exchange assists our volunteers to develop positive relationships with others, understand a broader range of perspectives, and develop the knowledge and skills needed for participation in our multicultural society.
