Hello to you,
My goal is to awaken and develop my newly bought little now renovated farm on at least 5 ha privately owned land and vineyard in the Languedoc South of France. I (45 year old, French/English/Dutch mother of 10 year old son) also own a lovely villa with pool, at 15 minutes away from the farm. I currently own 5 horses for private use. My love for horses has made me breed with my late beautiful black Spanish Menorcan stallion in the past. I now enjoy his offspring stallion, 1 mare and 2 foals of the same breed. Together with a PRE, an Arab/Quarter horse mix, a Shetland, a Shire/Clydesdale cross and 6 mini Shetlands all staying at the farm and in the vineyards! At the moment I'm into carriage training with them. I have good dressage and natural horsemanship skills as actively into horses since the age of 16. The farm is really remote, ideal for horse riding. I'm happy to share, enjoying this private farmstead and its animals, developing this little gem, with ecologically conscious ideas where artistic creativity is more than welcome. Looking to exchange your experience, knowledge and skills at our this little paradise into a farm with horses, mini ponies and other animals (cat, 2 dogs, peacocks, chicken, goat and the animal family is still growing), lovely vegetable garden, natural water and solar energy. Living this journey with the help of nicely cooked meals, playing music, dance and other art.

I speak fluent Dutch, English and French. You will experience how it is to live in the South of France remote countryside. Experiencing handling foals, dressage, long reining, driving and natural horsemanship. Ecologically conscious ideas and artistic creativity is there to share. We own vineyards and make natural wine, so lots to learn. Living this journey with the help of nicely cooked meals, playing music (we sing, play guitar and outdoor piano available), dance and other art. Sharing experiences and socialize with other Workawayers (possibility of hosting fellow Workawayers at the same time) or meeting up with the locals. Any special requests, let me know.

There are several accommodation possibilities on the domaine but mostly I would suggest a sweet caravan for more privacy. There is an outdoor kitchen, dry toilet and hot water shower shower available.

In your time off, you can enjoy WIFI, our horses for outdoor riding or other, wine tasting, hiking, yoga, music, dance or other activities in the spacious living room at the farm or in the beautiful remote surrounded nature . You can enjoy the private garden, swimming pool at the house and the river nearby. There is a lot to learn about winemaking in the area, visit local markets or visit interested places, meet with locals or be introduced to things you look for on request.

Mijn eerste workaway ervaring, helaas een slechte met een vieze nasmaak.
Waar ik hoopte op 4 leerzame mooie weken werden t uiteindelijk een paar hele slechte dagen. Vooraf telefonisch met de host gesproken. Ik zou alleen zijn en had een eigen “caravan” tot m’n beschikking. Ik had er erg veel zin in maar vond t ook heel spannend.

Eén dag voordat … read more ik bij haar zou zijn kreeg ik te horen dat m’n slaapplek door de storm schade had gekregen. Maar dat het snel opgelost zou zijn. Kon gebeuren. Eenmaal daar voelde ik me echt niet welkom. Ze had t veel te druk met allerlei andere zaken. Ik kreeg een tent en moest maar een plek gaan zoeken want ze wilde me liever niet in haar huis aangezien ze t weekend al gasten had gehad en komend weekend alweer. En dan moest ze weer t bed verschonen. Nou lekker welkom.
De vlg dag bleek dat mijn “caravan” vol met schimmel zat. Nou dat is niet van een paar dagen. Ik kreeg de taak om de caravan schoon te schrobben. Als ik dat gedaan had kon ik het verven en dan kon ik er slapen. De dag werd niet voorgesproken, taken werden niet in overleg verdeeld, we hadden geen inspraak. De andere work awayer en ik mochten niet op dezelfde momenten vrij zijn, terwijl dit echt wel zou kunnen qua werkzaamheden. De host liep de hele dag te bellen en wij wisten niet wanneer we eten kregen. De host en de andere work awayer raakten in discussie en ik legde uit dat t misschien fijn was wanneer de host uit zou leggen wat maakte dat ze voor die keuze ging. Toen kreeg ik de mededeling dat ik geen deel uit maakte van het gesprek.
Toen ik vroeg of we een planning konden maken, werd gezegd dat dit niet mogelijk was omdat elke dag anders liep. Tegelijkertijd werd wel verwacht dat we zelfstandig veel wisten en uitvoerden, terwijl er weinig tijd was voor uitleg of begeleiding. Wanneer iets niet goed ging, reageerde de host daar soms boos of geïrriteerd op.
Daarna gaf ik aan dat ik graag persoonlijk met haar wilde praten over wat zaken maar ze zei dat we dat niet gingen doen aangezien ze een drukke had had gehad.
We kregen geen uitleg over de paarden en toen de paarden ontsnapte naar een andere wei moesten we het maar uitzoeken. Geen hulp oid. #redacted#.
Als je geen tijd hebt om je work awayer in te werken en er voor ze te zijn begin er dan niet aan.
De vlg dag moest ik om half 8 beginnen. Om 6 uur kreeg ik een appje dat ik uit kon slapen en dat we na de lunch wel een keer konden praten. Dat ze eerst een afspraak had en niet gestoord wilde worden. Uiteindelijk om half 4 had ze tijd om te praten. Toen ik vertelde waar ik tegen aan liep werd ze boos. Ze vond me een prinses en vroeg of ik in een kasteel woonde. Ze gaf aan dat ik beter direct kon gaan. De andere work awayer die al op meer plekken geweest was gaf aan dat het niet normaal was hoe ze met ons om ging en besloot ook te vertrekken.
Daar sta je dan. Moet je laat op de dag nog een andere slaapplek zoeken.
Work away zou een geweldige ervaring kunnen zijn maar neem als host je verantwoordelijkheid. Je nodigd mensen uit in je leven. Mensen komen om iets bij te dragen en om iets te leren. Geen sloofjes, geen gratis arbeidskrachten. Als je er de tijd en energie niet voor hebt begin er dan niet aan.

We stayed at this work away for 5 weeks and overall it was fun but challenging. The first week, we had to adapt to living on the farm with no electricity and no water. Although collecting over 120 litres of water every day from a source seems like a lot of water, you learn that we use a lot more water than we think. The work from the first week … read more consisted of taking the horses out to graze, mucking out horse manure from their paddocks, and hand-pulling out weeds to start the vegetable garden. We also enjoyed a sustainable fashion show event on the weekend which was lovely!
On the second week, we asked to stay at the host’s house as we needed a bit of internet and a good shower, and she kindly let us stay for a week. We also asked to include meat into the meals which was kindly accepted. As for the work, we pulled out weeds from the host’s garden at her house, we removed rocks and dug into the ground to prepare a terrace for cement, we built wooden frames, pushed hay bales up a hill, and organised a manure pile for future compost. At the end of the week, one of the workawayers left early and a new person arrived.
The third week, we started doing cement work. This was very challenging as we were three women with no experience. Although it was quite physical and tiring, we managed to figure it out but we did make errors. On the other hand, we also made fires to burn excess wood to clear a paddock, pushed another hay bale up a hill, we created a new paddock for the pregnant mares, and did some riding on our free time. On the weekend, we went to two live band events which was nice.
The fourth week, the weather got better, we continued to do cement, and one of the fowls was born.
The last week, we cut branches, burnt more wood, and cleared a paddock of manure. We did a lot of horseriding the last two weeks which was amazing.
Overall, there were ups and downs and as long as your expectations are communicated to the host about food and the hours of work you would like to do per day, you will enjoy your stay. No day was the same as the previous one, there is a lack of structure especially around time schedules, but over time you learn to be flexible with work and eating schedules. I would also suggest to count the hours yourself. However, the peace that you feel being in nature was very healing and made it an unforgettable experience.

We are so grateful that Aijuna offered us this … read more opportunity. We were invited to stay at her house and we could rent her car to be mobile by ourselves.
She is so hospitable. We felt so welcome. It was not only working but we were also able to experience a part of her live. We got to meet her friends, we were invited to parties, we eat pizza, we went to a local concert and yoga.

Working at the farm was also a good experience. She does such a good job over there. I admire her perseverance. She works really hard and she also expect it from the workawayers. So we worked hard. But in between there was also the possibility to do some lighter work. Some of our work was helping to clear a piece of land from dead trees, wood, brambles etc. To create a new place for the mares near the farm. We helped taking care of the horses. We helped and learned how to prune the wineyard which was really nice to learn and to do.
Lunch and diner we prepared together at the farm or in the villa.

In our free time we explored the area. Aijunas niece was staying with her and she joined us which was really nice. Also because my daughter and she got along very well and had a lot of fun.

We would love to come back in the near future. Thanks Aijuna, Mila and Roman for the wonderful time and for your friendship ❤️

I stayed at this farm for 2 weeks, together with my mom. The hospitality was very nice, creating a very welcoming atmosphere. Aijuna is a strong women who does what she sets her mind to. A true role model when it comes to hardwork. commitment to her goals and aspirations served as an inspiration throughout my stay. I got to take care of the horses and ride, but also a lot of other more physical activities. I met a lot of amazing people because Aijuna gave us the opportunity to take a look in the local life here. She took us to parties hosted by her friends or herself, to eat pizza and a concert. I am usually the type of person to become a bit homesick. But ajiunna really made me feel like I was at home. definitely a experience I will cherish.
