Description
🚨 WE ARE URGENTLY IN NEED OF WORKAWAYERS! PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH US! THANK YOU!🚨
We are part of an international non-profit NGO run by volunteers located in Helsingborg, South Sweden. Our focus is on empowering women and youth, discovering hidden competencies, social entrepreneurship, and culture.
The heart of our organization is believing in trying new things and being brave in the face of life’s changes. Our projects and activities are all about questioning what’s normal and staying positive and constructive about life’s choices.
The organization has two centers where it carries out local and international activities and projects. One is a social initiatives incubator in an urban setting in the city of Helsingborg and the other is a cultural and learning center called Outintic Houses. Outintic Houses are located in the rural and forested town of Hästveda in Skåne Region.
**Discover Hästveda: A Charming Village Surrounded by Nature**
Nestled in beautiful forests with nearby lakes for swimming, Hästveda is part of Hässleholm’s municipality. The village, with a population of around 3,000, is easily accessible by train or car. It offers great services including primary, middle, and high schools, a library, ATM, postal service, stores, and a child care center.
For sports enthusiasts, there are plenty of options both active and spectator. The centerpiece is Lake Lillasjön, featuring a 2.5 km floodlit trail for walking and jogging, an outdoor gym, and a grilling spot. There’s also an off-leash dog park and the nearby Hästveda Homestead Park.
Hästveda is famous for its annual fair, held every July since the 1870s, attracting around 100,000 visitors. The name Hästveda comes from the old Nordic word viðr, meaning forest, and the village was first mentioned in 1145 as Hestiwite.
*** ACCOMODATION ***
Outintic houses consist of Red and Grey houses, named after their colors. The two houses are located next to each other and both are opposite the Hästveda railway station, which is served by the Växjö-Hässleholm route of the Krösatågen regional rail network.
The Red House is a renovated historical heritage with a history of almost 180 years. Since the Red House is bigger and better furnished, we organize our general activities and events in this house. As a Workawayer you will have your own room in the Red House and access to the common areas. For your information, we rent out rooms in the Red House on bnb, so sometimes you may need to share the house with international guests who come to stay through bnb. During your stay you may need to share the common areas and some parts of the house (other rooms, the garden, etc.) with the host's family and other guests. The bathroom is a shared bathroom, and the house has 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets, including downstairs and upstairs. Our dog, a beloved member of our household, may also come to stay with us in the red house from time to time, so we hope you are good with animals.
In the garden of the Red House, there is a house that is under construction and has not yet been completed. If you have experience in house building, we can talk about it in detail.
Since the renovations inside the Gray House are ongoing, most of your tasks will be about this house.
*** WORK ***
We have two kinds of work proposals:
1) We offer both food and accommodation for 25 working hours a week (4-5 hours, 5 days a week, with 2 days off).
2) We don't offer food but we offer accommodation for 15 working hours a week help (3 hours, 5 days)
We can discuss further on the working schedule and it can be adjusted according to needs and agreements.
** No skills or experience are required to complete the tasks. We aim to share skills and learn from each other.**
Most of the tasks you will receive as a workawayer are about renovating the interior of Outintic Houses and these tasks do not require experience. These tasks are physical and involve simple renovation work. For example: cleaning, moving things, simple carpentry, painting, sorting things, etc. If you have experience in construction and renovation, we can talk in detail about the tasks you can do to the best of your knowledge and the materials you will need.
Your tasks may vary depending on the organization's event plans in Helsingborg and Hästveda. Examples of tasks related to the organization are contribution to better management of the organization's activities and events, planning, execution and organization of cultural and learning activities in both Helsingborg and Hästveda, etc.
You will be informed about the tasks related to the organization in advance and you can take on different tasks according to your abilities. If you have an idea for an activity, project or workshop that you would like to implement that could help develop the organization and the people who work in it, we can also talk in detail about how to make it happen.
In general, every day is different. Don't be afraid to break your routine! 😉 Warning: lots of changes and moves, both physically and mentally.
*** WHAT TO EXPECT? ***
Common sense and courtesy are expected and reflected in our house rules, please be aware of them before you arrive.
We are attentive to your needs, so feel free to ask questions or raise concerns to discern early on if any constructive changes can be made. Please do not expect all your needs to be centered, but we do our best to adjust both the environment and the building to facilitate everyone's participation and comfort.
Please note that your accommodation might be cold and dusty! There may be minor renovations going on, people passing by and our pet dog may come to stay with us. You are therefore responsible for cleaning your room and common areas during your stay.
*** MEALS ***
We live more like a collective than a formal organization. When we live collectively in the Outintic houses, meals are cooked very simply for everyone and are often vegetarian, sometimes fish and other seafood is used. Please be aware that you have to cook your own meals when you are alone in the house. The common rule is that if you want to cook meat you will have to do it at your own expense.
*** SEE AND DO ***
Homestead Park*
Located by Lake Lillasjön, Hästveda’s Homestead Park is a living museum showcasing cultural history.
Explore historical buildings from the 1600s onwards and experience how people lived, worked, and went to school. The park features an outdoor stage for concerts and events.
The Carriage Museum displays old agricultural tools, carriages, and parts of Axel Helm’s carpentry workshop. Exhibits include early electric installations, a railway display, books, textiles, and laundry history. On the upper floor, view crafts, a historic store, and a collection of theater costumes from Sonja Stjernquist’s 50-year career.
Lursjön*
Lursjön is Scania’s most picturesque bathing lake and a popular summer destination. Nestled in a beautiful setting, this lake offers a sandy beach with bathing jetties, a diving tower, and scenic views perfect for a sunny day out.
The lake attracts both locals and visitors, with the nearby Malmö summer camp, Barnens By, having welcomed over half a million children for over 100 years. You can swim in the clean waters, or enjoy other activities like beach volleyball, mini-golf, and exploring the beautiful surroundings.
For those who prefer a more relaxed visit, there are barbecue areas for family gatherings, a large playground for kids, and designated areas where dogs are welcome. You can also rent canoes or boats, or purchase a fishing license for a peaceful day of fishing.
The area is accessible for everyone, and you can enjoy stunning sunsets and occasional events such as music nights and outdoor entertainment.
Hästveda Church*
Hästveda Church, founded around 1190, is a Romanesque church with 13th-century frescoes, a granite baptismal font, and a historical runestone. The church’s tower was expanded in 1863 to house the bells, which were previously in an outside belfry. It also features a 1598 pulpit, 17th-century chandeliers, and an 18th-century altarpiece. One of the bells, acquired in the early 19th century, is believed to be a war capture from Riga.
Lillasjön (Small Lake)*
Encircling Lillasjön is an about two and a half kilometer long floodlit trail. Along the trail is a place for barbequing with a table and benches, outdoor gym and a fenced in place where the dog can run loose. The area can be reached from all quarters, including the adjacent homestead park. The area has a rich birdlife and the trail around the lake is popular and easily accessed. It is there, by the shore of Lillasjön, that the traditional celebration of walpurgis night occurs during the spring.
Outdoor GYM*
By the trail around Lillasjön, a stone’s throw from the orienteering club house, is an illuminated outdoor gym with seven different training tools. Here you can train your entire body in a fabulous environment and completely free of charge.
The Lursjö trail*
The trail by Lursjön offers a varied hike through beech forest, mixed forest and open agricultural landscape. The trail is 13 kilometers long in total and there are two different starting points. One of the starting points is the parking spot by Lurskön, the other one starts by Piparpsgården north of Lursjön.

Sweden is a country of nature and the outdoors. Solitude and mindfulness are best practiced here, where old villages and towns are kept preserved through centuries. Safe area for discovery and travel, commonly respected rules of gender equality and political correctness.
Help
We constantly plan activities and carry around project ideas but lack help with administration and logistics around it, all from cleaning and cooking to making posters and delivering them around the city.
In the rural house, we are dealing with a long-term renovation/building where learning by doing has been a motto for the last two years so some physical help will be required.Languages
