    Description

Hi, I’m Mitch, a musician living under the great western tiers in beautiful Jackeys Marsh. I live off grid in a timber cabin surrounded by an abundance of wildlife, mountains, creeks and forests. I have called Tasmania home for the last 10 years after spending my earlier days travelling Australia and abroad. I have lived in many places around Aus and have a great understanding of cultural Australia. I love good company, cooking, socialising, gardening, hanging out, time in the shed, fishing, fixing things, building, making music, restoring old machines ( including motorcycles) and great conversation. :)

Situated in central northern Tasmania, the property is 34 acres and has has two permanent creeks. Filled with brown trout and the occasional platypus, there is one creek directly in front of the accomodation and one as the entire western boundary. There is a waterfall and a swimming hole on the property and access to multiple walks nearby. Surrounded by mountains (the great western tiers) it is a short commute to the Great Lakes, 10min to Meander, 20min to Deloraine and 1hr to Launceston and Devonport. There are no immediate neighbours making the property very immersed in nature, peaceful, quiet and tranquil. Some of the local wildlife include, native quolls, Tasmanian devils, echidnas, wallabies and a huge array of bird life including yellow tail black cockatoos. It is also home to six chickens and a beautiful border collie called Bear. There is no phone service at the property, however satellite internet is provided and a landline for use to make calls.

The help required will be often varying and seasonal. From basic land maintenance, weeding, gardening, stone collecting, cutting/collecting/splitting/stacking firewood, small construction/building tasks, home repair, water and pump repairs, feeding animals, painting, mowing, brush cutting etc.

With an open mind I would love to learn any skills or language you have to offer. I love learning, I love skill sharing, and I love good company :)

Accomodation can be either inside the main cabin in a private loft, or in a small hut overlooking the creek. Both are wood heated and super comfy, with shared kitchen and amenities. There is a wood fired bath over looking the creek, an outside shower and bath in a greenhouse and an internal shower and toilet.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Helpers can learn some varied skills including everything firewood related, gardening, using stone for construction, fishing, basic mechanics, music tuition, singing, playing all combined with great conversation about cultural Australia and past stories of travel and life experiences. With a passion for cooking as well, there are opportunities to learn different skills in the kitchen and swap some great ideas. I would love to learn any skills that you have or from any experiences that you are willing to share.

The property is located in a great location giving access to many walks nearby, waterfalls and wildlife. I believe it is an opportunity to experience the heart of Tasmania in one of the most picturesque parts of the state.
